Misheard Song Lyrics -> Stories -> Little River Band

Misheard lyrics (also called mondegreens) occur when people misunderstand the lyrics in a song. These are NOT intentional rephrasing of lyrics, which is called parody. For more information about the misheard lyrics available on this site, please read our FAQ.

This page contains a list of the songs that have stories about their misheard lyrics submitted.

Song names are sorted by first letter, excluding A and The. This is sorted by song title only, not by song title and performer. So if two different performers preformed the same song, you'll see misheard lyrics for both on the same page (provided the song title was spelt the same both times, and misheard lyrics have been submitted for both!).

Little River Band's, "Reminiscing"
The Misheard Lyrics:
Dancing in the dark, walking in the park
And write and essay.
The Real Lyrics:
Dancing in the dark, walking in the park
And reminiscing.
The Story: When I was young I had never heard the word 'Reminiscing', but I had heard my older sister talk about writing essays. So that was the only word my brain had to pull from that sounded like that :) - Submitted by: Nutaskeet
Little River Band's, "Reminiscing"
The Misheard Lyrics:
I want to make you understand
I'm talking about a one night stand.
The Real Lyrics:
I want to make you understand
I'm talking about a lifetime plan.
The Story: My co-worker 'Joy' and I often break into song together whenever one or the other of says or overhears a word or phrase that sparks a memory or whatever. I am more reserved by nature and have a good and sometimes whacky sense of humor. Joy is very open about herself and has a reputation of having a somewhat wild and, how shall we say, unrestrained past, and also has a good but sometimes whacky sense of humor. One day we both broke into this song and when we got to this verse you can just about guess which one of us sang which version. Everybody standing nearby broke into laughter and it took more than a couple of minutes to get over it. We still sing it together ever so often just for kicks. - Submitted by: Duff Lowe
Little River Band's, "Reminiscing"
The Misheard Lyrics:
Now as the years roll on, each time we hear our favorite song
The memories come along
Motorcycle, I was, pendamy I was rinner nishing.
The Real Lyrics:
Now as the years roll on, each time we hear our favorite song
The memories come along,
Older times we're missing, spending the hours reminiscing
The Story: Heard "motorcycle, I was, ..." the very first time I heard it on the radio. Every time it came back on (this was decades before Spotify!) I would listen and try to make sense of it. Finally figured out "spending the hours reminiscing", but the first part still sounds like "motorcycle" to me to this very day. - Submitted by: Mike Jones
Little River Band's, "Reminiscing"
The Misheard Lyrics:
That Miller's brand was better than before
We yelled and screamed for me.
The Real Lyrics:
Glenn Miller's band was better than before
We yelled and screamed for more.
The Story: When I was in my late teens, I probably didn't know who Glenn Miller's band was. But I was VERY familiar with Miller beer, so this is how my brain chose to make sense of this part of the song. - Submitted by: John E
Little River Band's, "Reminiscing"
The Misheard Lyrics:
Walking through the bog and reminiscing
The Real Lyrics:
Walking through the park and reminiscing
The Story: I knew it didn't make sense. (Why the heck would they be walking through a bog?!). But try as I might, I could not stop hearing that whenever I listened to this song. - Submitted by: Val
Little River Band's, "The Night Owls"
The Misheard Lyrics:
Move on, there's a hard banana fallin'.
The Real Lyrics:
Move on, there's a howl of a night owl calling.
The Story: I was sat listening to a replay of Casey Kasem' s AT40 and I was quite confused as to why the artists on the radio were singing about bananas. So I asked my husband to research the lyrics and find out why I was hearing bananas. - Submitted by: Aunty Lala
