Misheard Song Lyrics -> Stories -> King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard

Misheard lyrics (also called mondegreens) occur when people misunderstand the lyrics in a song. These are NOT intentional rephrasing of lyrics, which is called parody. For more information about the misheard lyrics available on this site, please read our FAQ.

This page contains a list of the songs that have stories about their misheard lyrics submitted.

Song names are sorted by first letter, excluding A and The. This is sorted by song title only, not by song title and performer. So if two different performers preformed the same song, you'll see misheard lyrics for both on the same page (provided the song title was spelt the same both times, and misheard lyrics have been submitted for both!).

The Misheard Lyrics:
Bell rug, bell rug
Bell rug, bell rug
Bell rug, bell rug, yeah!
The Real Lyrics:
Balrog, balrog
Balrog, balrog
Balrog, balrog, yep!
The Story: In Australian English, Balrog is pronounced "Belrog". Those unfamiliar with J. R. R. Tolkien's books won't understand the reference without looking up the song lyrics. - Submitted by: Ryan M Miller
King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard's, "Han-Tyumi, the Confused Cyborg"
The Misheard Lyrics:
Hello
My name is Hentai-Yumi
The Real Lyrics:
Hello
My name is Han-Tyumi
The Story: I think I watch too much anime so I immediately heard Hentai-Yumi the first time I heard this song. It doesn't help that the cyborg says "This is sex" a few lines later into the track and that sexual themes are a common topic for popular song lyrics. Little did I know that I had misheard Han-Tyumi and that the name was supposed to be an anagram for humanity. - Submitted by: Ryan M Miller
King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard's, "I'm In Your Mind"
The Misheard Lyrics:
'Cause everybody's sucking all the rye
The Real Lyrics:
'Cause everybody's sucking on fluoride
The Story: My reasoning was that the lyrics were referring to getting drunk on rye beer. - Submitted by: Ryan Miller
The Misheard Lyrics:
Battlesnake
Battlesnake
Battlesnake
The Real Lyrics:
Rattlesnake
Rattlesnake
Rattlesnake
The Story: The lyrics are sung with some kind of distortion filter and there is a cymbal crash on the first syllable of the word rattlesnake, so I keep hearing "battlesnake". - Submitted by: Ryan M Miller
King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard's, "The Lord of Lightning"
The Misheard Lyrics:
Nautical, nautical
Nautical infinity, yeah!
or
Not a gun, not a gun
Not a gun infinity, yeah!
The Real Lyrics:
Nonagon, nonagon
Nonagon infinity, yup!
The Story: I've never heard the word nonagon (a nine-sided polygon) used in conversation, so I had no idea that the lyrics were referring to the album name before I looked them up. - Submitted by: Ryan M Miller
