Misheard lyrics (also called mondegreens) occur when people misunderstand the lyrics in a song. These are NOT intentional rephrasing of lyrics, which is called parody.
For more information about the misheard lyrics available on this site, please read our FAQ.
This page contains a list of the songs that have stories about their misheard lyrics submitted.
Song names are sorted by first letter, excluding A and The. This is sorted by song title only, not
by song title and performer. So if two different performers preformed the same song, you'll see
misheard lyrics for both on the same page (provided the song title was spelt the same both times, and
misheard lyrics have been submitted for both!).

I don't know where I am
And I don't really care
I poked myself in the eye
And no one cared
I don't know where I am
And I don't really care
I look myself in the eye
There's no-one there
The Story: Typical scenario: I was in a store and the song came on the radio. I started singing it to myself and when I got to that part, the girl standing next to me giggled derisively! From that point I knew something was wrong with my singing, so I looked it up on my phone and was rather embarrassed, but amused. - Submitted by: Bruna Black
Oh, Chris de Burgh, Chris de Burgh
Oh, crystal ball, crystal ball
The Story: Just about everyone I ask misheard this line like I did! - Submitted by: Anne
Keane's,
"Somewhere Only We Know"
Oh sympathy, where have you gone?
Oh simple thing, where have you gone?
The Story: I sung this wrong lyric when I was in the front row of a Keane gig, and Tom Chaplin, the lead singer gave me a funny look. - Submitted by: Dave
Keane's,
"Somewhere Only We Know"
So why don't we go somewhere with the Weebles?
So why don't we go somewhere only we know?
The Story: I gave honor to the famous Romper Room toys that wobble, but they don't fall down! - Submitted by: Cody Finke
Keane's,
"Somewhere Only We Know"
Somewhere a weevil
Somewhere on a weevil.
Somewhere that we know
Somewhere only we know.
The Story: I still call it 'The Weevil Song' much to the annoyance of my teenage daughter. Why I thought they'd be singing about a weevil? I don't know!!! - Submitted by: Mary
Keane's,
"Somewhere Only We Know"
Somewhere on Owego
Somewhere that we know
The Story: I assumed it was the name of a lake or river at or near the town of the same name in New York; and that it must have had a very personal and romantic place in the heart of the songwriter. It's the only line I know from the song, which I heard in the preview for a movie. It's very catchy, however, and I've frequently caught myself humming or sing this single line since then. I even had a picture in my mind of a village park on the water. Last week, I heard a less-than-perfect version of the entire song sung on "American Idol". The enunciation, however, was impeccable, and *poof*, no more Lake Owego. It makes me kinda sad. - Submitted by: Emmy
Keane's,
"Somewhere Only We Know"
i came across a fallen tree
I felt the vultures, are they looking at me
I came across a fallen tree
I felt the branches of it looking at me.
The Story: I actually didn't question the lyrics when I heard them, because my own little version actually makes sense. I was picturing a wasteland with fallen trees and vultures everywhere. - Submitted by: Disneygirl
