Misheard Song Lyrics -> Stories -> Joan Jett and The Blackhearts

Misheard lyrics (also called mondegreens) occur when people misunderstand the lyrics in a song. These are NOT intentional rephrasing of lyrics, which is called parody. For more information about the misheard lyrics available on this site, please read our FAQ.

This page contains a list of the songs that have stories about their misheard lyrics submitted.

Song names are sorted by first letter, excluding A and The. This is sorted by song title only, not by song title and performer. So if two different performers preformed the same song, you'll see misheard lyrics for both on the same page (provided the song title was spelt the same both times, and misheard lyrics have been submitted for both!).

Joan Jett and The Blackhearts', "I Love Rock 'N' Roll"
The Misheard Lyrics:
Hi ho, rock and roll
The Real Lyrics:
I love rock and roll.
The Story: You know about 'hi ho' from the 7 Dwarfs, and when I first heard it I thought it could've been like a 'pub song' - you know, kind of some of the stuff you'd hear from Slade perhaps. Musically, it's quite a bit 'harder' than that but maybe you get the picture. - Submitted by: Suh-Leezee Sladester
Joan Jett and the Blackhearts', "Do You Wanna Touch Me (Oh Yeah)"
The Misheard Lyrics:
We've been here too wrong
The Real Lyrics:
We've been here too long
The Story: I kept thinking between "long" and "wrong". - Submitted by: Cody Finke
Joan Jett and the Blackhearts', "I Love Rock And Roll"
The Misheard Lyrics:
Put another lime in the Dulux, baby.
The Real Lyrics:
Put another dime in the jukebox, baby.
The Story: This lass called Laura Jupp earnestly thought that this song was about fruit, pigment and paint. Mind you, it was the time of the Dulux 'White - Not Quite' adverts, which had an apple dropping into a tub of emulsion among other things - to make 'apple white' paint. I guess she just heard what she heard and made some connections. Oh to be so young again. The world was still full of unknown unknowns. - Submitted by: Gavbad
