Misheard lyrics (also called mondegreens) occur when people misunderstand the lyrics in a song. These are NOT intentional rephrasing of lyrics, which is called parody.
For more information about the misheard lyrics available on this site, please read our FAQ.
This page contains a list of the songs that have stories about their misheard lyrics submitted.
Song names are sorted by first letter, excluding A and The. This is sorted by song title only, not
by song title and performer. So if two different performers preformed the same song, you'll see
misheard lyrics for both on the same page (provided the song title was spelt the same both times, and
misheard lyrics have been submitted for both!).

Went to a bar till I got kicked right outta here
Stick around the world till I whacked a hole in 'er heart
Was I?
Good bartender I had a better hit here
But then I wouldn't do it till I put a lovin' in her heart ...meow!
Mad tooth bar chin-up, box zing outta her hair now
Still do the modern day whack-a-mole ditto-o-o
What's that?
Good bartender, I'da hat-beer 'n' head out
I said I wouldn't do it if a poodle had a lid on
The Story: I was captivated by this "song" the first time I heard it back in the late 70s. There are a lot of cool songs where I didn't understand the lyrics so I didn't pay much attention to it. When I tried to find the actual lyrics to this song is when I discovered that the songwriter was just trying to get a feel for how the "actual" lyrics would sound. The gibberish is what stuck after all! - Submitted by: Paul Houser

I said goodnight bartender
I'd better head out
I said I wouldn't do it if you
Poured another beer uh huh.
Went to the bartender, whatcha gotta have.
Still little more bit of alcohol in uh huh
I said good bartender I had better an head'a (head out)
I said I would do it, and I could, then I did uh huh
The Story: Story Structure:
Drunk guy goes up to the bartender.
He wants a little more to drink.
Knows he ought to leave.
Boasts he can leave on his own, so he tries, and does so successfully. Probably stumbling out of the bar. - Submitted by: Randy Nelson
