Misheard lyrics (also called mondegreens) occur when people misunderstand the lyrics in a song. These are NOT intentional rephrasing of lyrics, which is called parody.
For more information about the misheard lyrics available on this site, please read our FAQ.
This page contains a list of the songs that have stories about their misheard lyrics submitted.
Song names are sorted by first letter, excluding A and The. This is sorted by song title only, not
by song title and performer. So if two different performers preformed the same song, you'll see
misheard lyrics for both on the same page (provided the song title was spelt the same both times, and
misheard lyrics have been submitted for both!).

Angels in a catapult
My Angel is a centerfold
The Story: My 10 year old son told us that he really like the song 'Angels in a catapult', but he thought it was mean to put angels in a catapult. We didn't have a clue what he was talking about until one day when he said 'That is the song!!!!' and it was 'Centerfold'. We told him the correct lyrics, but he still sings it the other way. - Submitted by: James VanCleave
My angel has a cell phone.
My angel is the centerfold.
The Story: My pre-teen daughter was shocked when she found out the real lyrics, especially after I explained to her what a 'centerfold' is! Boy, was her face RED! - Submitted by: Nora
My angel lives in Semaphore
My angel is a centrefold
The Story: I live in Semaphore, which is in South Australia, Australia. My father told me how 'cool it was to live in an area that has had a song written about it'. - Submitted by: Tanya
My angel lives in Singapore.
My angel is a centerfold.
The Story: After a stopover in Singapore, I heard this song on the radio. I was convinced they said 'Angel lives in Singapore'. - Submitted by: scooter
The phone's on hold
My maiden aunt has just been told
My angel is 20 years old.
My blood runs cold
My memory has just been sold
My angel is a centerfold.
The Story: I was at a friends house and she buys compilation CDs, so I was looking at the case for an 80's one and asked if I could put this on. She said of course, it was one of her favourite songs. I started singing along and she asked why I was singing the wrong lyrics (I wasn't). I then got to explain to her what the song actually meant. It is no longer one of her favourite songs. - Submitted by: Mercutio
We'll take this car, yes we will, we'll take this car and drive it.
We'll take it to a hotel room and take 'em off and drive it.
We'll take this car, yes we will, we'll take this car and drive it.
We'll take it to a hotel room and take 'em off in private.
The Story: It made sense as I heard it, albeit a little graphic. - Submitted by: Greg Milano
Grease face
Freeze frame!
The Story: It's actually my sister's misheard lyric. We were a group in a car singing loudly to the radio and once home realized, while she was singing the song in the house, that she was singing Greaseface instead of Freezeframe - Submitted by: Tvor
Squeeze play
Freeze frame
The Story: I was about 12 when this song became really popular. My sisters and I were listening to it on the radio when Mom came in and went through the roof, yelling about what kind of stuff they would play on the radio, and how we were being affected by that trashy song, being young and innocent. She turned off the radio and left the room in a huff. It wasn't until she calmed down later that we asked her what she was so angry about, and we all had a good laugh once she understood that the song was entitled 'Freeze Frame', and not 'Squeeze Play'. She never did elaborate. ;) - Submitted by: Joy
