Misheard Song Lyrics -> Stories -> Harold Melvin & The Blue Notes

Misheard lyrics (also called mondegreens) occur when people misunderstand the lyrics in a song. These are NOT intentional rephrasing of lyrics, which is called parody. For more information about the misheard lyrics available on this site, please read our FAQ.

This page contains a list of the songs that have stories about their misheard lyrics submitted.

Song names are sorted by first letter, excluding A and The. This is sorted by song title only, not by song title and performer. So if two different performers preformed the same song, you'll see misheard lyrics for both on the same page (provided the song title was spelt the same both times, and misheard lyrics have been submitted for both!).

The Misheard Lyrics:
Till He appeared and this hole felt its worth
The Real Lyrics:
Till He appeared and the soul felt its worth
The Story: At a used bookstore I bought a CD entitled "Norman Rockwell FAVORITE CHRISTMAS SONGS". I think I'd seen it before at full price but hadn't been motivated to buy it. It has turned out to be a good buy at only two dollars. This is one of the songs on the CD. On listing to it, this line suddenly clicked in my mind as "........... This hole felt its worth" and I burst out laughing at the thought. This version really did sort of sound that way. Knowing the real lyrics to the song, I didn't have to look them up to correct the hoot that had suddenly resonated in my ears. - Submitted by: Karen Smith
