Misheard Song Lyrics -> Stories -> Gala

Misheard lyrics (also called mondegreens) occur when people misunderstand the lyrics in a song. These are NOT intentional rephrasing of lyrics, which is called parody. For more information about the misheard lyrics available on this site, please read our FAQ.

This page contains a list of the songs that have stories about their misheard lyrics submitted.

Song names are sorted by first letter, excluding A and The. This is sorted by song title only, not by song title and performer. So if two different performers preformed the same song, you'll see misheard lyrics for both on the same page (provided the song title was spelt the same both times, and misheard lyrics have been submitted for both!).

Gala's, "Free From Desire"
The Misheard Lyrics:
My father's got no money
He's got his trumpbelice
or
My father's got a mower
He's got his trumpbelice.
The Real Lyrics:
My lover's got no money
He's got his strong beliefs.
The Story: Well basically I was quite young when I heard this song. (I loved it of course.) But the terrible thing is I actually believed that a 'Trumpbelice' was a different kind of trampoline. I was singing it to a friend of mine, because I wanted her to request it on the radio station. She couldn't remember the song's name, so I spoke to the man on Q103 radio station and started to sing to him 'My father's got no money-he's got his trumpbelice.' The man laughed so hard I hung up, and never called them again, but, he knew what I was talking about, funny enough, and put it on. - Submitted by: Yaz B
Gala's, "Free From Desire"
The Misheard Lyrics:
My lover's got no money
He's got his trombolies
The Real Lyrics:
My lover's got no money
He's got his strong beliefs.
The Story: We wanted to know what a trombolie was, so we decided to look up the lyrics. And then, we were wrong. There is no such thing as a trombolie. - Submitted by: Durhamcrew
Gala's, "Free from Desire"
The Misheard Lyrics:
My lover's got no money
But he's got his trombone lease.
The Real Lyrics:
My lover's got no money
But he's got his strong beliefs.
The Story: I was going to work about 5am, very early for me and I am not a morning person, and this song came on the radio. I turned to my husband who was driving and said, "What kind of stupid song is this?" He said, "Why?" "The guy has no money but he has a leased trombone. Maybe his priorities are off?" My husband laughed and said, "She is singing 'he's got his strong beliefs', no trombone lease." - Submitted by: Kushelkitten
Gala's, "Freed From Desire"
The Misheard Lyrics:
My Lover's Got Pneumonia,
He's got his trumpet leaves
The Real Lyrics:
My lover's got no money,
He's got his strong beliefs
The Story: I first heard this song on the radio, and i was so baffled as to what the meaning of the first line of the song was that I sent a fax to the dj asking him if he could confirm the lyrics. Naturally, the dj was laughing his ass off on the air and told me to visit an ENT (Ear Nose & Throat) specialist! - Submitted by: Kunal Bajaj
Gala's, "Freed From Desire"
The Misheard Lyrics:
My love has got no money,
He's got his Trumbolice,
My love has got no power,
He's got his Trumbolice,
My love has got no brain,
He's got his Trumbolice
...
Free from desire,
Minor sex and securified
The Real Lyrics:
My love has got no money
He's got strong beliefs
My love has got no power
He's got strong beliefs
My love has got no fame
He's got strong beliefs
My love has got no money
He's got strong beliefs
Freed from desire
Mind and senses purified
The Story: I heard this song in an age when finding lyrics on the internet was a luxury, and I didn't speak English very well, either, so this is the version that stuck in my head for three of four years. I had no idea how Mtv played a song about pedophiles. - Submitted by: Victor Flickstein
Gala's, "Freed From Desire"
The Misheard Lyrics:
My love has got no money
He's got himself relieved.
The Real Lyrics:
My love has got no money
He's got his strong beliefs.
The Story: That's actually what a friend of mine misheard while we were hanging around. The funniest of all was that she was absolutely sure about the text and no one was able to convince her that she was wrong. - Submitted by: Lora
Gala's, "Freed From Desire"
The Misheard Lyrics:
My love has got no money
He's got his trumble eats.
The Real Lyrics:
My love has got no money
He's got strong beliefs.
The Story: I always had trouble making out what the 'strong beliefs' part of this track was supposed to be. The best I could come up with was 'trumble eats', which didn't make sense. Maybe it was a designer drug I hadn't heard about. Then my youngest sister suggested 'strong beliefs' and suddenly, it made more sense. - Submitted by: Discus
