Misheard Song Lyrics -> Stories -> Frankie Valli

Misheard lyrics (also called mondegreens) occur when people misunderstand the lyrics in a song. These are NOT intentional rephrasing of lyrics, which is called parody. For more information about the misheard lyrics available on this site, please read our FAQ.

This page contains a list of the songs that have stories about their misheard lyrics submitted.

Song names are sorted by first letter, excluding A and The. This is sorted by song title only, not by song title and performer. So if two different performers preformed the same song, you'll see misheard lyrics for both on the same page (provided the song title was spelt the same both times, and misheard lyrics have been submitted for both!).

Frankie Valli - Greatest Hits album at Amazon.com
Frankie Valli's, "Can’t Take My Eyes off You"
The Misheard Lyrics:
I love you baby and if it's not all right
I need you baby
The Real Lyrics:
I love you baby and if it's quite all right
I need you baby
The Story: While driving home with my then boyfriend the song Cant Take My Eyes off You came on. He noticed I was saying and if it’s not alright I love you baby. Well this half jokingly ruined my entire life and childhood as I grew up with this song. No one ever corrected me. I always thought that even if the person was not alright with being loved (maybe they didn’t love them back) he still would love that person anyway. It still makes sense to me, but no one else gets my explanation. I still find myself slipping when I sing it. - Submitted by: Maggie
Frankie Valli's, "Grease"
The Misheard Lyrics:
Grease is a word
The Real Lyrics:
Grease is the word
The Story: I was wondering about what it meant. It was that they were referring to the movie (musical) title, and I wondered if it really mattered if it was "a" or "the". - Submitted by: Cody Finke
Frankie Valli's, "Grease"

My childhood friend
The Story: This is what I heard until I went to see Jersey Boys. I like my words better because it meant that Frankie Valli was friends with an African American girl but they never got together. - Submitted by: Bebblyann

Frankie Valli's, "My Eyes Adored You"
The Misheard Lyrics:
Mice of Georgia
The Real Lyrics:
My eyes adored you.
The Story: I remember a D.J. poking fun at this song and saying that the lyrics sounded like 'Mice of Georgia' instead of 'My eyes adored you'. Never forgot it, so I'm reminded every time I hear the song. - Submitted by: Steve Jackson
Frankie Valli's, "My Eyes Adored You"
The Misheard Lyrics:
Miles in Georgia..
Oh I never laid a hand on you
Miles in Georgia
The Real Lyrics:
My eyes adored you
Oh I never laid a hand on you
My eyes adored you
The Story: All though my childhood and young adult years, I had always thought the name of the song was "Miles In Georgia". I thought maybe he was talking about a girl he knew miles away in Georgia. The song rhythm sounded like it was reminiscent of some Southern state like Georgia, too. I found out the song was called "My Eyes Adored You" when I was 26 years old. Interesting to note: I found out the original working title of the song was called "Blue Eyes In Georgia", from Wikipedia and several other articles on the Internet. I guess probably Frankie Valli decided to sing about "My Eyes Adored You" instead of "Blue Eyes In Georgia". Ha, ha. - Submitted by: Codi Preston D.
Frankie Valli's, "My Eyes Adored You"
The Misheard Lyrics:
Miles of torture.
How I'll ever led to hang on you?
Miles of torture.
The Real Lyrics:
My eyes adored you.
Though I never laid a hand on you.
My eyes adored you.
The Story: Finally, I found new misheard lyrics of popular songs. This time, it would be "My Eyes Adored You". When I hear this song for the first time, seemly, Frankie say "my eyes adored you" indicated that Frankie is alright. But, when I hear this song over and over again until I'll see misheard lyrics list, Frankie say "miles of torture" indicated that Frankie is not alright. Another listener posting it that the listener misunderstand when Frankie say "miles of torture". For me, I also hear Frankie say "miles of torture" but I'm growing it to including the English second-person pronoun. About this song: This time, "My Eyes Adored You" was another cover version originally recorded by a popular artist after "For You" by Bruce Springsteen and "July Morning" by Uriah Heep. "My Eyes Adored You" originally recorded by Frankie's rock band, The Four Seasons. When Frankie covered this song for his album, "Closeup", this time it would be more popular than "For You" and "July Morning". Frankie version topping on Billboard's Pop Chart and also reaching #5 on the UK Singles Chart. At the time, Frankie version of "My Eyes Adored You" became popular on many radio stations. Originally, I put Frankie version of "My Eyes Adored You" on pop and oldies playlist. But, after Frankie was a member of the rock and roll band, The Four Seasons, now I adding it into rock playlist. "My Eyes Adored You" wasn't Frankie's major hit, the other being are rock and roll's "Can't Take My Eyes Off You" and dance-rock's "Grease". After "My Eyes Adored You" success, sometimes it included on many Four Seasons compilation albums. - Submitted by: Wisnu Aji
Frankie Valli's, "My Eyes Adored You"
The Misheard Lyrics:
My eye's in Georgia!
Though I never laid a hand on you, my eye's in Georgia!
From a million miles away you can never see Hawaii from Georgia!
So close; so close-- but it's so far!
The Real Lyrics:
My eyes adored you.
Though I never laid a hand on you,
My eyes adored you
Like a million miles away from me, you couldn't see how I adored you.
So close, so close, and yet so far.
The Story: Something I've heard from when I was a kid. I've been to Atlanta, and from where I was, I just couldn't see Hawaii... - Submitted by: Al

The Real Lyrics:

The Story: I'm pretty sure Nolan and Crewe's original draft of this song was "My eyes of Georgia." That makes it a bit freaky that so many have misheard the original lyrics. - Submitted by: Bily

Frankie Valli's, "My Eyes Adored You"
The Misheard Lyrics:
My eyes of Georgia
The Real Lyrics:
My eyes adored you.
The Story: I never understood what the artist was trying to say. My eyes of Georgia made no sense, but that's what I heard. Even now that I know the true lyric, My Eyes of Georgia just seems to roll off of the tongue easier. - Submitted by: Brian
Frankie Valli's, "My Eyes Adored You"
The Misheard Lyrics:
My sweet Georgia
or
My sadorcha
The Real Lyrics:
My eyes adored you
The Story: I was at my friend's house when this song came on and she and her mother asked me to settle their debate about what the actual lyrics were. My friend thought the singer was saying, 'My sweet Georgia' and her mother thought he was saying, 'My sadorcha' (whatever that is). Since the next line is 'I never laid a hand on you, but my eyes adored you,' I thought this was fairly obvious, but evidently not. I still laugh about it 25 years later. - Submitted by: Karen E.
