Misheard Song Lyrics -> Stories -> Foghat

Misheard lyrics (also called mondegreens) occur when people misunderstand the lyrics in a song. These are NOT intentional rephrasing of lyrics, which is called parody. For more information about the misheard lyrics available on this site, please read our FAQ.

This page contains a list of the songs that have stories about their misheard lyrics submitted.

Song names are sorted by first letter, excluding A and The. This is sorted by song title only, not by song title and performer. So if two different performers preformed the same song, you'll see misheard lyrics for both on the same page (provided the song title was spelt the same both times, and misheard lyrics have been submitted for both!).

Foghat's, "Fool For The City"
The Misheard Lyrics:
'Cause I'm a full-blooded sinner.
The Real Lyrics:
'Cause I'm a fool for the city.
The Story: While out 'roadie-poppin''--the g-rated, under 21, Christian college student version of road-tripping, where we use gallons of Mountain Dew instead of beer, I was jammin' this tune when the other 3 passengers with me, objected to this Foghat classic because they thought he was singing proudly about being a sinner. I said, 'no, that's not what he is saying. He just lives that way.' - Submitted by: Daniel DeVilder
Foghat's, "Fool For The City"
The Misheard Lyrics:
When I see my innards
I'll be walkin' on a cloud.
The Real Lyrics:
When I see my inner city child
I'll be walkin' on a cloud.
The Story: I could swear I heard this on the radio, just yesterday. I cracked up laughing and then spoke to someone about someone seeing their innards. Sounded gross. - Submitted by: Peter
Foghat's, "I'm a Fool for the City"
The Misheard Lyrics:
Pool ball city
OR
Pole vault city
The Real Lyrics:
I'm a fool for the city.
The Story: We were sitting at a restaurant and they were playing "Fool for the City." I told my sister said that I could not understand the words and she told me she didn't know the song. I said it sounded like "pool ball city" or "pole vault city." An employee then told me the real lyrics, as he was sitting nearby, working by drawing their logo on pizza boxes. - Submitted by: Briana Delaney

Snow white take it easy
