Misheard Song Lyrics -> Stories -> England Dan & John Ford Cooley

Misheard lyrics (also called mondegreens) occur when people misunderstand the lyrics in a song. These are NOT intentional rephrasing of lyrics, which is called parody. For more information about the misheard lyrics available on this site, please read our FAQ.

This page contains a list of the songs that have stories about their misheard lyrics submitted.

Song names are sorted by first letter, excluding A and The. This is sorted by song title only, not by song title and performer. So if two different performers preformed the same song, you'll see misheard lyrics for both on the same page (provided the song title was spelt the same both times, and misheard lyrics have been submitted for both!).

England Dan & John Ford Cooley's, "I'd Really Love To See You Tonight"
The Misheard Lyrics:
I'm not talkin' 'bout the linen.
The Real Lyrics:
I'm not talkin' 'bout movin' in.
The Story: A co-worker and I where listening to the song at work and started singing the song. We both started singing the words 'I'm not talkin' 'bout the linen' and realized that sounds like what they're saying but it didn't make much sense. We looked up your site and were enlightened. Even though we now know what the real words are, we can't stop singing it the 'original' way. After singing those words for nearly thirty years, that song will always be 'talkin' 'bout the linen' to us. - Submitted by: Phil Hall
