Misheard lyrics (also called mondegreens) occur when people misunderstand the lyrics in a song. These are NOT intentional rephrasing of lyrics, which is called parody.
For more information about the misheard lyrics available on this site, please read our FAQ.
This page contains a list of the songs that have stories about their misheard lyrics submitted.
Song names are sorted by first letter, excluding A and The. This is sorted by song title only, not
by song title and performer. So if two different performers preformed the same song, you'll see
misheard lyrics for both on the same page (provided the song title was spelt the same both times, and
misheard lyrics have been submitted for both!).

Shelby's mother
Sylvia's mother
The Story: I knew the song was called "Sylvia's Mother", but I wasn't paying close attention to the song on the radio, and I just thought I heard "Shelby's Mother" instead of "Sylvia's Mother"!! I hadn't heard it for such a long time that I didn't even realize that "Sylvia's Mother" was the song I was hearing until about 35 seconds into the song!! I really thought I heard "Shelby's Mother". What a mistake. LOL. - Submitted by: Codi Preston D.
Dr. Hook's,
"When You're In Love With A Beautiful Woman"
When you're in love with a beautiful Wilma
When you're in love with a beautiful woman
The Story: One night when I was about 7, I asked my father to play "The Wilma Song". We spent hours searching through his collection of records for a song with "Wilma" on it. We called a local radio station. Because the DJ didn't know what it was, he asked for people to call in if they knew what it could be. Eventually, my father worked out what the song was and called the radio station back. The DJ agreed that it did sound like "Wilma", and played it for me. - Submitted by: Wayne
