Misheard lyrics (also called mondegreens) occur when people misunderstand the lyrics in a song. These are NOT intentional rephrasing of lyrics, which is called parody.
For more information about the misheard lyrics available on this site, please read our FAQ.
This page contains a list of the songs that have stories about their misheard lyrics submitted.
Song names are sorted by first letter, excluding A and The. This is sorted by song title only, not
by song title and performer. So if two different performers preformed the same song, you'll see
misheard lyrics for both on the same page (provided the song title was spelt the same both times, and
misheard lyrics have been submitted for both!).
The Nightmare Before Christmas: Original Motion Picture Soundtrack album at Amazon.com
Disney's,
"As Long As There's Christmas"
I'll wear my tiara I bought in Wal-Mart
I may wear my tiara You bought me in Montmartre
The Story: It's from the Beauty and the Beast sequel. I thought it was funny that the characters were singing about Wal-Mart until I learned those weren't the real lyrics. - Submitted by: Hu's On First
Disney's,
"Ev'rybody Wants to Be a Cat"
Everybody wants to pee a cat
Everybody wants to be a cat
The Story: Specifically the reprise, from the film Aristocats. I must have been very young when I first watched this film, for that's what I actually believed it said. I recall asking a teacher exactly how a cat was supposed to fit out of your peehole and got sent to the principal. On a side note, whenever I mishear any lyric it tends to be the title one... - Submitted by: Macaroni Man
We have fun and lots of plastic 'cause you're Mickey Mouse.
We have fun and lots of class because you're Mickey Mouse.
The Story: When I was 4 years old I had this Disney record 'The Mouse Factory' with Mickey Mouse singing this song. I could never understand what plastic had to do with anything. When I was 11 I remembered the song and finally realized what the true lyrics are. - Submitted by: Domov Runner
Take him to the lie berry!
Take him to the library!
The Story: I saw "Toy Story 3" tonight and it was funny! When Buzz was forced to be led with enemies, Ken said "take him to the library", but I misheard it as "lie berry", you know, the strawberry that lies in the field "forever". - Submitted by: Mickey D.
Plenty of sunshine, get out of my way
Plenty of sunshine heading my way
The Story: I gave a copy of Song of the South to my good friends and asked their 4 year old son to sing Zip-a-dee-doo-dah for me on my next visit . . .this lyric was what he heard. Really cute! - Submitted by: Wendy
