Misheard lyrics (also called mondegreens) occur when people misunderstand the lyrics in a song. These are NOT intentional rephrasing of lyrics, which is called parody.
For more information about the misheard lyrics available on this site, please read our FAQ.
This page contains a list of the songs that have stories about their misheard lyrics submitted.
Song names are sorted by first letter, excluding A and The. This is sorted by song title only, not
by song title and performer. So if two different performers preformed the same song, you'll see
misheard lyrics for both on the same page (provided the song title was spelt the same both times, and
misheard lyrics have been submitted for both!).

Blessed are the rays, blessed ice.
Kiss the hand that's over this, kiss the hand that holds this life- damn.
There something out there all my own, the coldest sunlight of them all.
There's nothing out there all my own, the coldest sun where art thou-
Blessed morning rays, blessed ice.
Kiss the hand that offers this
Kiss the hand that holds this life- Ahh
There's something out there alone, the coldest sun that I found.
There's something out there all alone- the coldest sun where I lie
The Story: This is my favorite singer and I have always had issues knowing the exact words. I have to look a lot of them up just to be sure. When I had this CD I lost the liner. I was homeless and had no computer or phone to check lyrics on then. Now I realize how off I was. - Submitted by: Alana
Yeah! Sweet potato! Yeah! Drives my brain...
Yeah! Twist of Cain. Yeah! Drives my brain
The Story: I was listening to the song in my car, and while I've always liked the song, and loud, I was never too attentive the lyrics. Suddenly I heard Glen Danzig scream about sweet potatoes, to my shock and amusement. I kept trying to pick out the correct lyrics, but just couldn't make it out while trying focus on the dark highway before me. - Submitted by: Kolourz Voss
