Misheard Song Lyrics -> Stories -> Danny & The Juniors

Misheard lyrics (also called mondegreens) occur when people misunderstand the lyrics in a song. These are NOT intentional rephrasing of lyrics, which is called parody. For more information about the misheard lyrics available on this site, please read our FAQ.

This page contains a list of the songs that have stories about their misheard lyrics submitted.

Song names are sorted by first letter, excluding A and The. This is sorted by song title only, not by song title and performer. So if two different performers preformed the same song, you'll see misheard lyrics for both on the same page (provided the song title was spelt the same both times, and misheard lyrics have been submitted for both!).

Back to the Hop: The Swan Recordings 1960-1962 album at Amazon.com
Danny & The Juniors', "At The Hop"
The Misheard Lyrics:
Well, you can rock and you can roll
And do the slop and Davis stroll at the hop
The Real Lyrics:
Well, you can rock it you can roll it
You can stop and you can stroll it at the hop
The Story: I was a little kid, what can I say? I never bothered to look up the real lyrics until just now. - Submitted by: Porfle Popnecker
Danny & The Juniors', "At the Hop"
The Misheard Lyrics:
Lick your lips and wet your chicken.
The Real Lyrics:
You calypso and you chicken.
The Story: As technology developed, it was easier to understand those hard to figure out lyrics. As I grew up and was able to purchase better tech, that line in At The Hop sounded like "Lick your lips and wet your chicken". I figured it meant lick your lips (so they're soft/smooth) and kiss your girlfriend (chick, chicken). - Submitted by: Vernice Aure
