Misheard lyrics (also called mondegreens) occur when people misunderstand the lyrics in a song. These are NOT intentional rephrasing of lyrics, which is called parody.
For more information about the misheard lyrics available on this site, please read our FAQ.
This page contains a list of the songs that have stories about their misheard lyrics submitted.
Song names are sorted by first letter, excluding A and The. This is sorted by song title only, not
by song title and performer. So if two different performers preformed the same song, you'll see
misheard lyrics for both on the same page (provided the song title was spelt the same both times, and
misheard lyrics have been submitted for both!).

...when the world comes in, breadcrumb, breadcrumb...
...when the world comes in, they come, they come
The Story: For the longest time I couldn't understand what was being said in the chorus. I asked my friend one day, and it happened to be on, and after listening carefully, he jumped up excitedly as though he knew the lyric. He promptly exclaimed, "BREADCRUMB". We had a good laugh and it sounded as good as anything until I found it out correctly. But of course to this day, it is still, "The Breadcrumb Song". - Submitted by: Jason Coleman

The Story: Today as a matter of fact, Sunday, March 4, 2007. I was in a local Publix shopping store. I heard someone sing this line, (I think it was a store employee), really off key.At first, I couldn't understand what this employee was trying to sing. Then I overheard on the store intercom the Crowded House song's actual lines. I started cracking up laughing at the person's mistake. - Submitted by: Peter
