Misheard Song Lyrics -> Stories -> Crosby, Stills & Nash

Misheard lyrics (also called mondegreens) occur when people misunderstand the lyrics in a song. These are NOT intentional rephrasing of lyrics, which is called parody. For more information about the misheard lyrics available on this site, please read our FAQ.

This page contains a list of the songs that have stories about their misheard lyrics submitted.

Song names are sorted by first letter, excluding A and The. This is sorted by song title only, not by song title and performer. So if two different performers preformed the same song, you'll see misheard lyrics for both on the same page (provided the song title was spelt the same both times, and misheard lyrics have been submitted for both!).

Looking for that woman, girl.
The Story: We had just got done seeing CSN and were piling into our limo bus. We had to turn down the CSN CD we brought so the driver could hear directions. One of our group: Elaine, feel back into the couch in the limo and shouted, 'Come on I want to hear "One-Eyed Girl.' There may have been alcohol involved. - Submitted by: Stacey
Crosby, Stills & Nash's, "Southern Cross"
The Misheard Lyrics:
I have been around the world
Looking for that one-armed girl.
The Real Lyrics:
I have been around the world
Looking for that woman-girl.
The Story: My best friend and I argue about this all of the time because she says "one-eyed girl" and swears that her version sounds closer to the lyrics. (but she's wrong and it cracks me up) - Submitted by: steph
Crosby, Stills & Nash's, "Southern Cross"
The Misheard Lyrics:
I have been around the world
Looking for that one-armed girl.
The Real Lyrics:
I have been around the world
Looking or that woman, girl.
The Story: This was actually my wife's lyric. When I heard her singing along with the Jimmy Buffett version, I had to stop her and say, "Looking for what???" She looked at me straight-faced, and said, "One-armed girl". "Why would anyone be looking for a one-armed girl?", I asked. "I don't know" she answered. "I just figured it was like 'The Fugitive'!" I almost (urinated in) my pants. - Submitted by: Duane
