Misheard lyrics (also called mondegreens) occur when people misunderstand the lyrics in a song. These are NOT intentional rephrasing of lyrics, which is called parody.
For more information about the misheard lyrics available on this site, please read our FAQ.
This page contains a list of the songs that have stories about their misheard lyrics submitted.
Song names are sorted by first letter, excluding A and The. This is sorted by song title only, not
by song title and performer. So if two different performers preformed the same song, you'll see
misheard lyrics for both on the same page (provided the song title was spelt the same both times, and
misheard lyrics have been submitted for both!).

I may be a bad girl
But you're not coming in.
You may be invited, girl
But you're not coming in.
The Story: My friend walks up to me one morning a couple of weeks before the 2005 Rocketown Coca show. He says, "Is he saying, 'I may be a bad girl, but you're not coming in?'" I, not being a morning person at all, agreed with him so he would go away and be happy. After we go to the concert, he sings it all night that way. The next day, we got into a discussion about the lyrics. When he found out what they really were, he yelled at me for misinformation. I didn't even remember what he asked me to begin with. - Submitted by: Anna
Melissa Wells, will you marry me?
Listen well, will you marry me?
The Story: I was dreaming and the TV was on. It was tuned to "MTV Wake-Up" when the song was playing. I was so sleepy when I opened my eyes. I thought it was a proposal song to Melissa Wells. I was like, "Who the f*** is that?" - Submitted by: K
You may be delighted girl
But you're not Corainian.
You may be invited, girl
But you're not coming in.
The Story: I had heard that Coheed and Cambria's music was a sci-fi story. I thought a Corainian must be a type of alien, or race. - Submitted by: Rowena
Oh, Wilson, G** d*** you.
So it's in, condemn you.
The Story: I thought they were talking about the Wilson (a volleyball) in "Cast Away". - Submitted by: Niq
Those days we lost our dignity
The eagle dared to stab
The ride home through victory
On the innocent, they tread.
Those days we lost our dignity
The eager dare to stand
The right home through victory
All the innocent, they tried.
The Story: I was mad when I found out the real lyrics--I thought it was a social commentary on what the United States has done. *sigh* - Submitted by: woodwinds
If marching spills our worth across this floor.
If my shame spills our worth across this floor.
The Story: I assumed Claudio was speaking of a march in which innocent people were killed for a good cause. I was wrong.... - Submitted by: James Bowker
