Misheard Song Lyrics -> Stories -> Charlie Daniels Band

Misheard lyrics (also called mondegreens) occur when people misunderstand the lyrics in a song. These are NOT intentional rephrasing of lyrics, which is called parody. For more information about the misheard lyrics available on this site, please read our FAQ.

This page contains a list of the songs that have stories about their misheard lyrics submitted.

Song names are sorted by first letter, excluding A and The. This is sorted by song title only, not by song title and performer. So if two different performers preformed the same song, you'll see misheard lyrics for both on the same page (provided the song title was spelt the same both times, and misheard lyrics have been submitted for both!).

Charlie Daniels Band's, "The Devil Went Down To Georgia"
The Misheard Lyrics:
Chicken in the bedpan, picken out dough
Granny does your frog bite? Go, child, go.
The Real Lyrics:
Chicken in the breadpan, pickin' out dough
Granny, does your dog bite? No, child, no.
The Story: Years ago before we all went down to see Volunteer Jam, we had a party. A friend brought a friend who claimed to be the number one CDB fan. Then he sang along to this song, which was blasting. But we all heard the wrong lyrics. Anyway, we laughed so hard it hurt. I never claim to know an artist and their lyrics, and then sing them to hardcore fans. Unless you are absolutly positive your lyrics are correct, you will never live it dowm. - Submitted by: Greg Campbell
Charlie Daniels Band's, "The Devil Went Down To Georgia"
The Misheard Lyrics:
Granny does your dog like
No child knows.
The Real Lyrics:
Granny does your dog bite?
No child no.
The Story: I heard this on a southern music cd and I thought why would someone's Granny be doing a dog? It wasn't until I did some internet searching that I found I was wrong. - Submitted by: CowpokeBill
Charlie Daniels Band's, "The Devil Went Down to Georgia"
The Misheard Lyrics:
I give it to you once, you son-of-a-bitch - I'm the best that ever been!
The Real Lyrics:
I done told you once, you son-of-a-bitch - I'm the best that ever been!
The Story: Maybe it's an 'accent' thing. I'm from Ohio. I get the same kind of 'mishearings' from some REM and ZZ Top songs too. - Submitted by: RIP CHARLIE DANIELS
