Misheard Song Lyrics -> Stories -> Captain and Tennille

Misheard lyrics (also called mondegreens) occur when people misunderstand the lyrics in a song. These are NOT intentional rephrasing of lyrics, which is called parody. For more information about the misheard lyrics available on this site, please read our FAQ.

This page contains a list of the songs that have stories about their misheard lyrics submitted.

Song names are sorted by first letter, excluding A and The. This is sorted by song title only, not by song title and performer. So if two different performers preformed the same song, you'll see misheard lyrics for both on the same page (provided the song title was spelt the same both times, and misheard lyrics have been submitted for both!).

Captain and Tennille's, "Do That To Me One More Time"
The Misheard Lyrics:
Doolie told me, 'One more time,
once is never enough with a man like you'
The Real Lyrics:
Do that to me one more time,
once is never enough with a man like you
The Story: I always thought this guy Doolie must have gotten some money or something from the man Tennille is singing about in order to entice her to be with him more than once. It is a completely different spin on the song and it is only 3 words different. - Submitted by: Valerie
Captain and Tennille's, "Muskrat Love"
The Misheard Lyrics:
And they whirl and they twirl and they spindle
The Real Lyrics:
And they whirl and they twirl and they tango.
The Story: I thought I heard the word spindle, I did not know what that meant leaving me even more confused. - Submitted by: Jo
Captain and Tennille's, "Muskrat Love"
The Misheard Lyrics:
And they whirl anti-twirl, anti-tango
or
And they whirl anti-twirl any tango.
The Real Lyrics:
And they whirl and they twirl and they tango.
The Story: I once thought that 'Muskrat Love' must be some highly rebellious dance, since it was 'anti-twirl' (whatever that is) and possibly anti-tango as well. BTW, it wasn't until much more recently that someone sought to assure me that the song is about actual muskrats, rather than, as I'd previously assumed, some kind of metaphorical take on some human activity. - Submitted by: Sheila Evans
