Misheard Song Lyrics -> Stories -> Bruce Hornsby and The Range

Misheard lyrics (also called mondegreens) occur when people misunderstand the lyrics in a song. These are NOT intentional rephrasing of lyrics, which is called parody. For more information about the misheard lyrics available on this site, please read our FAQ.

This page contains a list of the songs that have stories about their misheard lyrics submitted.

Song names are sorted by first letter, excluding A and The. This is sorted by song title only, not by song title and performer. So if two different performers preformed the same song, you'll see misheard lyrics for both on the same page (provided the song title was spelt the same both times, and misheard lyrics have been submitted for both!).

Scenes from the Southside album at Amazon.com
Bruce Hornsby and The Range's, "Every Little Kiss"
The Misheard Lyrics:
Way up here, rollin' on dubs.
The Real Lyrics:
Way out here working on the docks.
The Story: I was sitting at my desk in the office. My co-worker next to me was talking with someone on the phone, trying to solve a problem when this song came on the radio. Since she was closer to me than the radio, I couldn't hear the song that well. Then I heard 'way up here, rollin' on dubs' and started cracking up laughing! I've been singing those lyrics all day. I can just picture Hornsby in a music video, sitting high in a gold Escalade, showing off his 20's, and singing that verse. - Submitted by: I. Tatem
Bruce Hornsby and the Range's, "Across the River"
The Misheard Lyrics:
Signs, signs everywhere

Some fine day
The Story: I thought this sounded like "Signs" by the Five Man Electrical Band. - Submitted by: Cody Finke

As he catches the poor old Lady Di
The Real Lyrics:
