Misheard Song Lyrics -> Stories -> Brian Eno

Misheard lyrics (also called mondegreens) occur when people misunderstand the lyrics in a song. These are NOT intentional rephrasing of lyrics, which is called parody. For more information about the misheard lyrics available on this site, please read our FAQ.

This page contains a list of the songs that have stories about their misheard lyrics submitted.

Song names are sorted by first letter, excluding A and The. This is sorted by song title only, not by song title and performer. So if two different performers preformed the same song, you'll see misheard lyrics for both on the same page (provided the song title was spelt the same both times, and misheard lyrics have been submitted for both!).

Ambient 3: Day of Radiance album at
Brian Eno's, "Blank Frank"
The Misheard Lyrics:
Blank Frank is the messenger of your doom and your destruction
His particular skill is leaving barf in peoples' driveways.
The Real Lyrics:
Blank Frank is the messenger of your doom and your destruction
His particular skill is leaving bombs in peoples' driveways.
The Story: Since college, I've always wondered, and finally looked it up. Eno once said in an interview that he is more concerned with the aesthetics of the rhymes & cadences of his lyrics than their actual meanings, so 'barf' made sense...and I like it better anyway. - Submitted by: thomas handy
Brian Eno's, "Miss Shapiro"
The Misheard Lyrics:
Shut Up, Stewart!
The Real Lyrics:
Shop steward
The Story: The fade-out on this song (the live version anyway) contains the line 'Shop Steward', referring to the manager of a store. My old roomie thought that 'Stewart' was the name of some unknown sound engineer, who wouldn't stop talking in someone's ear-piece when they recorded this (with Phil Manzanera). I have my doubts, but this line does not exist on any lyrics page that I could find. - Submitted by: princejellyfish
