Misheard Song Lyrics -> Stories -> Bobby Goldsboro

Misheard lyrics (also called mondegreens) occur when people misunderstand the lyrics in a song. These are NOT intentional rephrasing of lyrics, which is called parody. For more information about the misheard lyrics available on this site, please read our FAQ.

This page contains a list of the songs that have stories about their misheard lyrics submitted.

Song names are sorted by first letter, excluding A and The. This is sorted by song title only, not by song title and performer. So if two different performers preformed the same song, you'll see misheard lyrics for both on the same page (provided the song title was spelt the same both times, and misheard lyrics have been submitted for both!).

Bobby Goldsboro's, "Honey"
The Misheard Lyrics:
And now my life's an empty stage
Where Honey lived and Honey played
And loved to love.
The Real Lyrics:
And now my life's an empty stage
Where Honey lived and Honey played
And love grew up.
The Story: For years, whenever I sang along with this song, I sang 'loved to love' in the above line, never questioning that that was the real lyrics. Then once, while searching lyrics sites, I saw this song, entirely by accident (not looking for it), and noticed 'love grew up' as the last words of the above lines. Since then, listening closely to the song does indeed enable me to hear 'love grew up'. But without seeing the lyrics site, I probably would never have realized that was the real lyrics, perhaps because one doesn't ordinarily think of love as something that 'grows up'. - Submitted by: Wendy Carpenter
Bobby Goldsboro's, "Watching Scotty Grow"
The Misheard Lyrics:
Me and Marty watching Scotty grow
The Real Lyrics:
Me and God are watching Scotty grow
The Story: I was a kid when I heard this song. I knew a family with a mother named Marty and a son named Scotty and I remember thinking "Oh, how cute. It's a song just like their names." - Submitted by: Joyce Calderone
