Misheard Song Lyrics -> Stories -> Black Lace

Misheard lyrics (also called mondegreens) occur when people misunderstand the lyrics in a song. These are NOT intentional rephrasing of lyrics, which is called parody. For more information about the misheard lyrics available on this site, please read our FAQ.

This page contains a list of the songs that have stories about their misheard lyrics submitted.

Song names are sorted by first letter, excluding A and The. This is sorted by song title only, not by song title and performer. So if two different performers preformed the same song, you'll see misheard lyrics for both on the same page (provided the song title was spelt the same both times, and misheard lyrics have been submitted for both!).

Push pineapple grind coffee
The Story: When I discovered the real lyrics I listened to them again and again whilst crying. - Submitted by: Jamie
Black Lace's, "Aga Doo"
The Misheard Lyrics:
I've got two, two, two push my apple shake the tree
The Real Lyrics:
Aga doo doo doo
Push pineapple, shake the tree.
The Story: Heard it in a game as an Easter egg of a server, thought it was from some kid's show. - Submitted by: Hello
Black Lace's, "Agadoo"
The Misheard Lyrics:
And when I said to the girl, "Come on and teach me to sway"
She left her husband to me, "Yes come tonight to the bay."
The lovely peach in the sky
The moon of Kaua'i
Around eclipse's sorrow
Well I'll be singing this song
The Real Lyrics:
And when I went to the girl, come on and teach me to sway
She laughed and whispered to me, yes come tonight to the bay
The lovely beach and the sky
The moon of Hawaii
The rum calypso sarong
We'll all be singing this song
The Story: I was like 5 years old doing edu-dance in 2010 and we had to dance to this song. I didn't hear the song again until a few months ago, and thinking I remembered the lyrics, I blurted it out confidently. But then I saw in Spotify... wait. Those aren't the lyrics. And honestly? Thank God this isn't a story of impulsive homewrecking and... peaches in the sky and eclipse's sorrow? Possibly an LSD trip. Oh well. At least I learned the truth before going to uni! - Submitted by: Anonymous
Black Lace's, "Agadoo"
The Misheard Lyrics:
I got two, two, two.
The Real Lyrics:
Agadoo, doo, doo
The Story: This got played at pratically every dance, party, disco, etc. I went to as a child. And I always thought it was 'I got two'. The fact the dance involved waving two fingers in the air on that line didn't help matters neither. - Submitted by: Mjn Seifer
Black Lace's, "Agadoo"

The rum Calypso's so wrong, well, I'll be singing this song
The Real Lyrics:
The lovely beach and the sky, the moon of Hawaii
The rum Calypso sarong, we'll all be singing this song
The Story: My family still does this as a novelty song for a square dance, "I got 2" is a lot more interesting than "Agadoo". - Submitted by: John Doe
