Misheard Song Lyrics -> Stories -> A Perfect Circle

Misheard lyrics (also called mondegreens) occur when people misunderstand the lyrics in a song. These are NOT intentional rephrasing of lyrics, which is called parody. For more information about the misheard lyrics available on this site, please read our FAQ.

This page contains a list of the songs that have stories about their misheard lyrics submitted.

Song names are sorted by first letter, excluding A and The. This is sorted by song title only, not by song title and performer. So if two different performers preformed the same song, you'll see misheard lyrics for both on the same page (provided the song title was spelt the same both times, and misheard lyrics have been submitted for both!).

A Perfect Circle's, "Judith"
The Misheard Lyrics:
It's not like you drove an evil spirit to his side.
The Real Lyrics:
It's not like you drove a hateful spear into his side.
The Story: I always heard the word spirit when hearing this song, like a major conjuring. I was using my own blood in the name of God and Jesus thinking the "miracles" were acts of God, but it was ancient Sumerian gods known as Baal answering multiple spells pretending to be God and I fell for it, and the results were catastrophic on multiple levels, so I feel I drove an evil spirit to his side, pretending to be on his side. They still interact with me to this day, and by the grace of God, although still, damaged I have been protected from the repercussions of using this "magic," regarding sacrifice and the "law" of what goes around comes around. I don't use blood anymore, but now I have to watch what I say and write, yet still falter on a daily basis, in my own anger, greed, and hatred towards the world. - Submitted by: Ryan Kaylor
A Perfect Circle's, "Orestes"
The Misheard Lyrics:
Don't wanna feel this overwhelming austerity.
The Real Lyrics:
Don't wanna feel this overwhelming hostility.
The Story: I didn't know what austerity meant or if it was even a word when I first heard this. Then, I was listening to the CD while doing my English homework (where I had to define austerity). That confirmed that those where the real lyrics. Then I looked the lyrics up, because I knew I was hearing another line grossly wrong and... this one too. - Submitted by: Fudge
A Perfect Circle's, "Rose"
The Misheard Lyrics:
The temperamental golden snail.
The Real Lyrics:
The temperamental goat, the snail.
The Story: Someone thought the new cd, Thirteenth Step, and the banana slug on it was a nod to the older song Rose, which seems silly because who would make allusions to a past cd they have? And because someone thought the lyric was 'golden snail.' - Submitted by: Nik
A Perfect Circle's, "The Outsider"
The Misheard Lyrics:
If you choose to pull the trigger
Shoot your jaw off, prove sincere.
The Real Lyrics:
If you choose to pull the trigger
Should your drama prove sincere?
The Story: Running an APC message board has its perks when people totally screw up lyrics. - Submitted by: Nik
A Perfect Circle's, "Thinking Of You"
The Misheard Lyrics:
Taking a poo
or
Drinking a beer
The Real Lyrics:
Thinking of you
The Story: When I saw A Perfect Circle open for NIN, they played this song and I couldnt figure out what Maynard was saying. So a month later my sister bought the cd and I listened to the whole thing, trying to find the 'drinking a beer' song. Turns out, it's called 'thinking of you'. Then when my sister was singing the song my brother waltzed in and sang 'Taking a poo' over her. It was slightly amusing, and it fit better into the rhyme scheme then 'drinking a beer'. - Submitted by: Kara
