Misheard Song Lyrics -> Stories -> Aaron Neville

Misheard lyrics (also called mondegreens) occur when people misunderstand the lyrics in a song. These are NOT intentional rephrasing of lyrics, which is called parody. For more information about the misheard lyrics available on this site, please read our FAQ.

This page contains a list of the songs that have stories about their misheard lyrics submitted.

Song names are sorted by first letter, excluding A and The. This is sorted by song title only, not by song title and performer. So if two different performers preformed the same song, you'll see misheard lyrics for both on the same page (provided the song title was spelt the same both times, and misheard lyrics have been submitted for both!).

Aaron Neville's, "Angola Bound"
The Misheard Lyrics:
Can't pull a plow, now, can't pull a plow
The Real Lyrics:
Angola bound, now, Angola bound
The Story: Friend from Sallisaw, Ok (near ARK border) thought song was saying "can't pull a plow". She and 5 brothers spent many a day toiling in the fields of her families land in the late 1940's, early 1950's,, so CAN'T PULL A PLOW would not be that far of a stretch for her. - Submitted by: d betts
Aaron Neville's, "Everybody Plays The Fool"
The Misheard Lyrics:
Everybody plays the flute.
The Real Lyrics:
Everybody plays the fool.
The Story: When I was really little, my mother was listening to this song. I said 'Mom, what if I don't want to play the flute?' My mother was really confused, then I said, 'He said everybody plays the flute. I don't want to play the flute.' She just laughed and told me the real lyrics. - Submitted by: Britni
