Misheard lyrics (also called mondegreens) occur when people misunderstand the lyrics in a song. These are NOT intentional rephrasing of lyrics, which is called parody.
For more information about the misheard lyrics available on this site, please read our FAQ.
This page contains a list of the songs that have stories about their misheard lyrics submitted.
Song names are sorted by first letter, excluding A and The. This is sorted by song title only, not
by song title and performer. So if two different performers preformed the same song, you'll see
misheard lyrics for both on the same page (provided the song title was spelt the same both times, and
misheard lyrics have been submitted for both!).

Aaliyah's,
"Age Ain't Nothing But A Number"
Age ain't nothin' but a number
But a noun ain't nothing but a thang.
Age ain't nothin' but a number
Throwing down ain't nothing but a thang.
The Story: My best friend actually thought these were the lyrics up until recently. It made so much sense though, because a noun is really a thing. An adolescent could really think these lyrics were correct. Darn grammar classes. - Submitted by: Keisha
Aaliyah's,
"Are You That Somebody?"
I'll be waiting there with my twat
I'll be waiting there with my trench
The Story: I heard the song on the radio and thought they blocked out the word "twat". Then I looked up the real lyrics and found that the word hadn't been there in the first place. Buzz kill. - Submitted by: Amanda
I'll be waiting there with my Twix, my notes, my hat just so I'm low-key
I'll be waiting there with my trench, my Lugz, my hat just so I'm low-key
The Story: I'm disappointed now that I've learned the correct lyrics. Studying and having a snack in the park seems a lot more low-key than loitering in a trenchcoat and boots. - Submitted by: Rob of Extraordinary Magnitude
I just touched down, quarter after 2, like 1:02.
I just touched down, a quarter after 2, flight 1-0-2.
The Story: I was always confused on why it wasn't corrected like she does know that a quarter after means fifteen minutes after the hour 🤣 Makes more sense now.3AL - Submitted by: Rae
More than a llama
More than a llama.
More then a lover
More than a woman.
The Story: I was at my friends house and we were listening to this song, I asked, 'Why is she singing about a llama?' Then she told me what she was saying. It's an inside joke now. - Submitted by: Lindz
Or play a roll
Or play a role
The Story: I thought it was "roll" but it was really referring to celebrities. - Submitted by: Cody Finke
