It's the only line they always get wrong, presumably due to mishearing. In 1979 nobody in Britain would have known what a VCR was, but VTR is a TV industry abbreviation for Video Tape Recorder.

Only as an adult, however, "Ennio" also made sense because, surely, The Buggles meant to accuse Ennio Morricone - as an incredibly successful composer of film music - of having killed the radio star.
