Story about this misheard lyric by: Tabitha Cartwright Although I've long known the correct words here, when I heard Cristy Lane singing this (on her CD, 30 Christmas Classics), it certainly sounded like she sings 'God and sin are reconciled', Surely she didn't mean for it to sound like that. For as a Christian singer, she would surely be aware of a crucial distinction between God being reconciled with sinners as opposed to with sin itself. Of course, it could make me think of certain rumors I've seen at least alluded to on at least one web site. That site I saw hints that Cristy Lane is actually a hoax and not a real person. Even if that were credible, it doesn't get around how SOMEONE must sing songs attributed to her, unless her whole singing voice could be computer-generated or something like that. I guess a computer might be hard-put to distinguish between 'God and sinners reconciled' and 'God and sin are reconciled'. But so much for that. Without any further evidence, I prefer to believe that Christy Lane is real, and that the funny sound of this line is purely accidental. |
