I'll still take him over the Nazi soldier he replaced. Having somebody like that as Pope was truly obscene.
Ah yes, the old "Panzer Cardinal" that I accurately predicted. Not being Catholic, I was lectured on how a German Pope would be next to impossible. I reminded the Catholics that he was the Defender of the Faith and had widespread support; in fact, he pre-counted his votes and said in an interview right afterwards that he had "bided his time!" He knew in advance, so a S American or Italian Pope was out of the question. I only wish the German Army had grabbed him earlier. Digging tank ditches and helping a flak battery was weak. The Waffen SS also could have shot him on his way back home without proper papers.
The closest I could find was "uncultus", from which we derive the English word "uncouth".
