The Lyrics

Here is my response to the judicial harrassment of jibjab.com by Woody Guthrie's record company for their parody of the same song.
Free speech is your right, free speech is my right,
The corporations just want a court fight.
They can shove their lawsuits to where the sun don't shine!
Free speech is a right for you and me.

As I was hearing the Jib-Jab parody,
I got to thinking that they could sue me
If they didn't like me, or the spoofs I like to sing.
They don't want free speech for you or me.

Free speech is your right, free speech is my right,
The corporations just want a court fight.
They can shove their lawsuits to where the sun don't shine!
Free speech is a right for you and me.

I've roamed and rambled and lived a good life,
But are some things for I must fight.
And trying to silence me, you know it just ain't right.
Free speech applies to you and me.

Free speech is your right, free speech is my right,
The corporations just want a court fight.
They can shove their lawsuits to where the sun don't shine!
Free speech is a right for you and me.

Well, the Jib-Jab artists did something scary,
They lampooned George W, they ripped John Kerry.
They were even-handed, so they should be wary,
The bigwigs want to ban their parody.

Free speech is your right, free speech is my right,
The corporations just want a court fight.
They can shove their lawsuits to where the sun don't shine!
Free speech is a right for you and me.

As I was thinking about this matter,
How the First Amendment is getting battered,
I wrote this song, and if they don't like it I'll flip them off,
'Cause free speech was made for you and me!

Free speech is your right, free speech is my right,
The corporations just want a court fight.
They can shove their lawsuits to where the sun don't shine!
Free speech is a right for you and me.

So, Woody Guthrie, you've had your heyday,
Don't tell us others what we can or can't say.
Respect our free speech, or there'll be hell for you to pay!
Free speech is King for you and me!

Free speech is your right, free speech is my right,
The corporations just want a court fight.
They can shove their lawsuits to where the sun don't shine!
Free speech is a right for you and me.

Nobody living can ever stop me
From singing any of my song parodies.
If you have a problem, then you kiss my post-erity!
Free speech rules for you and me!

Free speech is your right, free speech is my right,
The corporations just want a court fight.
They can shove their lawsuits to where the sun don't shine!
Free speech is a right for you and me.

Good grief, I'm sloppy today. Try again: "But there are some things for which I must fight". There, that looks right. -- MM

Big G, personally I think that's what angered the company that's suing JibJab. They didn't like seeing Kerry attacked, too. -- MM
