Parody Song Title:

"The Poor Mangled Gunner"

Parody Written by:

The Lyrics

Am I jumping to conclusions here?
Oh, say, did you see
On Fox late last night
How that moron Marine
Shot that wounded insurgent?

It went down in a mosque--
What a hell of a fight!
While in horror we watched
And our vomit was surgin'--

He got shot in the head
('Cause he wasn't quite dead)--
Our troops had their doubts,
So to Allah he sped!

No way could that poor mangled
Gunner be saved--
In a Moslem holy shrine
Or in old Abu Ghraib!
©Bob "Patriot-Ass" Gomez 2004..... As the Prince says near the end of
Romeo and Juliet: "All are punish'd."

It is very easy for those of us who watch combat situations on television to criticize the decisions made by those who are in harm's way. Perhaps your criticisms are valid; however, there are enough stories about Iraqis booby-trapping their bodies or pretending to be injured for me to give that marine the benefit of the doubt.

I voted for John Kerry, and I don't like the war in Iraq, but John Jenkins does have a point, at least partially ... I would not excuse what that marine did unless mitigating evidence comes to the fore ... but ... I honestly don't know what I would have done in that same situation ... of course, that doesn't make it right. It's a very tragic situation that arose from panic, fear, aggression, and "the fog of war", and a very frightened marine's split-second self-perceived decision of self-preservation ... but that still doesn't make it right, only somewhat understandable...

Listen to the North: "Some of you young men think that war is all glamour and glory, but let me tell you, boys, it is all hell!" -General William T. Sherman. Listen to the South: "It is well that war is so terrible, else we should grow too fond of it." - General Robert E. Lee. And who does Georgie Bush listen to? Hint: He only believes it's God.

Again, as in most of my antiwar parodies, I attempt here to make a point about the horrible situation our civilian leadership has gotten us all into. Our tax dollars are paying for what's going down over there, and it's very sad and frustrating to see us losing the propaganda battle with every military battle we win. When will we ever learn?
