A vision of swayback and lame
I still love that Old Hoss, and can't put him to rest
I'd just die if for glue, he was slain

No more rides on that Old Haggard Hoss
Now he's gray, where he used to be brown..

Tho', my Old Haggard Hoss ain't much use to the world
He's a favorite attraction to me
I remember good times, when he ran like the wind
His tail and mane streamed gracefully

In that Old Haggard Hoss, bony ribbed to the spine,
Still, shining beauty, I see
It was on that Old Hoss, as a youth that I'd ride
No saddle, just galloping free
