"This Old Plane (Mexican Air Force Hymn)"

Parody Written by:

The Lyrics

In the 1950's and 60's the United States curried favor with various Latin American "republics" by donating WWII surplus fighter planes to their dictators' air forces. In the 1970's and 80's those nations sold the surviving planes for hefty sums to US collectors.
This old plane barely flies
If it crashes, pilot dies
With a flip-flop, rivet-pop
Parachute kerplunk!
Cast-off U.S. Air Force junk

This old plane, worn out crate
Built in nineteen forty eight
With a flip-flop, rivet-pop
¡Adios, Cabrón!
Taco flyboy won't come home

These old planes, come and see 'em
Refugees from a museum
With a flip-flop, rivet-pop
Sputter, moan, and cough
The propeller just fell off

This old plane, can't get parts
Better if it never starts
With a flip-flop, rivet-pop
Hurry, grab the stick
Roll of duct tape did the trick

This old plane, piece of trash
Russians, they insist on cash
So it's flip-flop, rivet pop
Patch it with a can
Gracias to Uncle Sam
No ethnic offense intended. One has to admire the mechanics who kept these vintage machines flying. In the case of the Dominican Republic, they maintained a squadron of P-51 Mustangs in front-line service well into the 1980's.
