The Lyrics

OS: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_1oJuwkXr0E
Oh-oh, yes, I'm the great defender
Defending this guy in a cell
I need the bucks, I befriend this schmuck
While knowing he's guilty as hell

Oh-oh, yes, I'm the great defender
My gift with the words is well known
I've saved from shame sev'ral high-heeled dames
And kleptos perceived haulin' stones

I kneel with a feeling of great relief
My zeal is unreal when they pardon a thief

(Oh-Oh...)
Yes, I'm the great defender
My graphs and displays all astound
My fee's so steep that my clients weep
I'm wary and smart and renowned
Defending some bird-killin' hound

I squeal out my spiel for the snakes and cheats
I wheel and I deal with my heartless deceit

(Oh-Oh...)
Yes, I'm the great defender
I'm crafty and rave with some clout
I scheme and plead when I'm hopped on speed
I glare like a shark when I shout
Intending that you're filled with doubt
(Filled with doubt)

Guilty of being funny.

Nowadays, anybody can get locked up for just about anything. I want you on my side in the courtroom. A nice, classy, old style parody. Good to see you again. This song might make a good defense attorney TV ad theme.

I looked at it from the view of someone who feels guilt from defending people who are obviously guilty - but then realizes he's making a ton of money doing. I think you can have different interpretations on this one. Well stated and I always liked that old Platters song.

Well done, “fee's so steep” (how appropriate) was my fave line. 555

If the words do fit - you must acquit!

Very clever. This deserved more votes, but I guess for some the jury's still out...

Lexcellent beyond a reasonable doubt! (the pacing fit—I must '5' it!)
