The Lyrics

In the fifties girls wore Bobby sox
With brown and white saddle shoes
They liked rockin' all around the clocks
Rockabilly and blues..

Not like females now, so into sex
Wore long pleated skirts, plain
They had Buddy Holly in big specs
Mesmerizin' their brain..

Bobby sox..was all you'd see
Pony tails swung free
Good old Bobby sox,
Rock n' roll history
Rock n' roll history

Ricky Nelson, pure as applesauce
Crooned 'em all into a trance
Until Elvis showed he was the boss
Changed their innocent dance

Bobby sox..was all you'd see
Pony tails swung free
Good old Bobby sox,
Rock n' roll history
Rock n' roll history

Dick Clark ruled in Philadelphia
Every week on Bandstand
Acned kids and groups got wealthier
Anyone could sing grand

Bobby sox..is all you'd see
Pony tails swung free
Good old Bobby sox,
Rock n' roll history
Rock n' roll history

Nowadays teen-agers bump and grind
Hyped in an MTV vein
On young girls, nowhere, you'll ever find
Bobby sox white and plain

Bobby sox..was all you'd see
Pony tails swung free
Good old Bobby sox,
Rock n' roll history
Rock n' roll history

Are you hinting at your age, AFW? I really liked the tableau you painted. And very nice contrast to today's 'soxer's'. Very easygoing.

Ode to a much more innocent era...and very well done. ;D

Never thought about whether a wolf could whistle. Though I have wondered whether buffaloes have wings and chickens have fingers.

Good stuff, AFW, but as Sonny & Cher pointed out, the beat goes on. People who like the music of generations before the 50s thought that 50s music was too different or not as good as their favorites, and many people who like today's music will undoubtedly bemoan the music of future generations when it goes in a different direction.

Thanks, John, and a very true analysis of the music game
