The Lyrics

This is a resubmission, partially to give credit to accurate source material, and partially to include some rewrites that have happened since the original. If you don't know what World of Warcraft is, then don't start now, your whole life is in front of you. If you have, then you know how sad but true this stuff is.

Oh, and there is a recording of my public performance of this one here:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ABmxXbEMY0w&feature=channel_page
Mine eyes have seen the glory of the coming of the Horde;
I have donned by awesome-armor and I hold my awesome sword
It’s a symbol of the many things in real life I’ve ignored
This game keeps going on.

(Chorus)
Glory, Glory - to the Warcraft
Hordey, Hordey - on the Orc raft
Glory, Glory – to the Warcraft
This game keeps going on.

I have seen the frozen throne as I adventured through the damps;
I can play all through the night despite my finger-numbing cramps;
I get more and more addicted as the difficulty ramps;
This game keeps going on.

(Chorus)

I have started a new hero, but I’m slow to get XP
So I hired guys on e-bay to play my account for me
And I bid a lot on auctions to get in-game currency
This game keeps going on.

(Chorus)

I just played for 50 hours straight and now I’m feeling sick
And my raiding boss just chewed me out cause he’s a giant prick
You would not believe the time I waste with raiding politics
This game keeps going on.

(Chorus)

I have met my recent girlfriend through the raiding in the game
We’ve been dating for a year but I still don’t know her real name
We may meet in person someday when the real world wasn’t lame
This game keeps going on.

(OUTTAKES)

I have bred a ready warrior, with ancient blade of steel:
Lots of crit so when I tank I spike the damage that I deal;
I have started using verbs that years ago would not be real
This game keeps going on.

Haven't played this but saw the South Park episode on it - my sympathies, but also 5's for you.

Just sat no to MMORPGs. They will suck your life and your money. $60 for the game and then $15/month for the privilege to keep playing it? FU!

That said, it's an amazing revenue stream for Blizzard.

woefully ignorant of the game but it was a fun read and retained the majesty of the OS

Just another comment on your name - good choice - I remember some of my early parody inspiration was from a radio show that did songs and the lead singer was a guy who could talk like Dick the Bruiser (yes, the wrestler). Anyway he used that name and for his backups, they were called "The Moron Fish and Tackle Choir".

Don't play the game, but really liked the whole theme of the waste of life (unlike writing song parodies, of course :-). Would like to have seen different choruses each time -- more wit, more laughs -- instead of just (chorus)..... Kept my Win98 SE running until the machine died, by which time XP had matured pretty well -- 'cuz Vista was almost ready for release lol! 555

(I Am Not A Lawyer), but...from your author page:

Author's current goals: Get parodies officially copyrighted...

Everything you create is automatically and "officially" copyrighted the minute you set it on paper or disk. No further action is necessary, although "stating" that fact serves as notice to others who might claim that you released it into the public domain. Actually, it requires an affirmative act by the author -- to state such release, or to license it under the GNU or other similar licenses for non-commercial use only. For all of its other faults, Wikipedia has a good deal of information on copyright. Since they *do* license all content, and require all editors/contributors to accept the same licensing, you can see the licensing issue discussed by going to their main page and putting WP:COPY in the search box. That article leads to other informative links. They are also very strict about *not* allowing users to post copyrighted material on the site (e. g., in articles, or in the photos illustrating the articles), except in stringent compliance with "Fair Use" rules. All good reading. You might also find interesting the post at http://www.inthe00s.com/index.php?topic=36396.0

Bottom line: You've achieved your goal. It's your material unless and until you say it isn't. Cheers! -- Tommy Turtle

Swore I commented last night when I voted, sorry! Excellent song, I don't really play the game, but I get the idea, and like similar games. Well done.

At first I thought this was just going to be about the game, and I was like... Well this isn't really a lifestyle, but once you worked in the fact that you spend 50 hours playing it, and you have a girlfriend that you never met I changed my mind. World of Warcraft can be a lifestyle and you worked it in perfectly.

(Ages) I don't know the first thing about World of Warcraft, but this is hilarious! Okay, you're cheating a little, since this is a 19th-century song, but I'll assume the MTC recorded this song in the 1950's and give you a pass and a 5-5-5!

(Ages2) I know basically nothing about World of Warcraft (how I managed to write a parody about it, I'll never know) but the whole 'playing-a-game-for-smeg-knows-how-many-hours-straight' thing was funny in it's own right. 555 for you!

Yeah, never have played World of Warcraft because I was told that people get so addicted they forget it's only a game, and knowing my affection with games, I figured it'd be best for me not to get into a game like that. . .well done though.

AGES...TOO funny, 2nz! I have a friend who is a Warcraft-aholic, and we make fun of her for it all the time. Great pacing, too...excellent!
Invisible Boy - May 06, 2009 - Report this comment
What's "World of Warcraft"? I left video games at Pacman.
Not quite true...in Tampa with "da boys" I played some sort of weird karaoke/singing game which I had never seen before and haven't seen since.
Anyway, your pacing was excellent. I too would have liked to see more than "chorus", but I liked the overall effort very much...
