The Lyrics

Well, this...OOPS [Sounds of papers & stuff fluttering & dropping to the floor] ... darnit!...I've done it AGAIN...I seem to have dropped a whole bunch of names here...perhaps some of you folks mentioned in this parody could maybe come by and help me pick them up. If you do I promise to prominently mention you for it in the very near future...BTW - Yes, I have also mentioned some innocent folks here...but I figured if I left them out...they would, well...feel left out and complain...don't want that to happen, do we? ~ ~ ~
I have noticed this and perhaps you have, too (hmm?)
{LOUD DRUM BEAT}
Like to talk "bout ourselves

Seems most parody writers
sure like to talk 'bout themselves
think that applies to all of us
from P-Rob to Arwen Elf

Please consider; think you'll find that this is true
(LOUDER DRUM BEAT)
Like to talk 'bout ourselves

We all love you, Martha
The RAD & MAD team duo
Dee Range and Kristof Robertson
and Guy DiRito, too

How much longer until this guy gets to you? HMMM....
(LOUD, IMPATIENT DRUM BEAT)
I've waited long enough

Spaff is one, Claude's another
Pacholek and Stuey Mac
And Phil Alexander's works you'll often find are loaded with important Science facts
John Barry's so prolific, Jeff Reuben makes you laugh
Rick Cormier's stuff makes you break up; JohnnyD makes you wet your pants

You are wondering if he'll ever get to you...(True?)
(Pause...then an EVEN LOUDER, HARDER DRUM BEAT)
Will he get off his duff?

Airfarcewon and Ravyn
2nz and Leo J
Agrimorfee and Pete Andersson
So where is my name?

I feel "One's" for this piece coming very soon...OOOOHHH!!!
(SOUND OF VERY BIG DRUMSTICK HITTING AUTHOR'S BACKSIDE)
EASY! That was enough!

alvin rhodes and Royce Miller
Matthias and Mikey Squirrel
John Jenkins and Charlie Decker; both 'Tim's' - Hall and Mayfield; also Steven Cavanaugh
And, no, I've not forgotten about Red Ant and Scathe
If I have not mentioned you quite yet you prob'ly have a reddened face

Is he 'dissing' me or just made a "boo-boo"? (Grrrrhh)
(softer drumbeat, one of perhaps resignation)
Will find out soon enough

MooRocca, Mer & Pippin
did you think I'd miss you?
Adagio's waited long enough
so lines; I will give her two

Most sincere apologies to the rest of you (mew)
(Crawling and groveling sounds)
'OS' ain't long enough

Guess now I'm through (YEAH)
Writing about myself

~ {Reader's thoughts} ~

Ah, the Monotones, from the old neighborhood in Noork, N'Jersey, and a medley of their hit. I do like a good pander, and since you mentioned yourself first... and Arwen second... and ten before you got to me, I wholeheartedly approve.

i feel so small, and left out, so many places ya coulda fit me in, after all i been submitten fer a whole damned half a week now... how much do ya need? oh, fine, i only got one song on the slate, but does that discount me as a human? i got feelings. please, sir, i want more. and all the time i've spent reading your comments on "12 liberals we should toss". i coulda wrote songs in that time. then maybe i'd be somewhere in "all us authors like to talk about ourselves", oh, sure, i saw yer apology, an obvious attempt to excuse yerself from not mentioning the 400 plus of us leftout, and to use the excuse the OS aint long enuff. HEY JUDE's na na na's alone would've given you more than enuff space. Instead of "so where's my name"? you coulda said, hey there's Ulvang! ... No.. I wouldn't give anybody ONES... I don't go there girlfriend. 555's if only to get you ta like me. Now, I think a resubmission is in order.

Hello.
Paul Robinson - August 08, 2005 - Report this comment
See? I knew I could manage to massage and enrage ego's all in one short swoop here..."Ulvang", eh? A name that stands out...I think "U" would have to admit that...Well, additional lame excuse #34: I pulled the names off the "Author's Page" listing, so if you didn't have at least 10 there was no way to get included here. Yeah, I saw you had a comment on Linda whathername's piece on "Liberals"...I have decided that "Random Reader" had the best take on the whole piece and thread there...I should have stayed away, or at least not gone further than my initial comment...Moving on - I also skipped some of the higher total people where they don't really comment now or are no longer posting parodies(to my knowledge, anyway). 2Eagle, sorry, I only pulled two names with below 50 posts at to date...Leo Jay, who is well near the top in "vocal presence"...and Ravyn Rant...who knows a goodly number of songs from the 60's, particularly the San Francisco bands, and hence has, yes, gained my favor by being able to comment and discuss those bands and vote on those pieces. Not too many folks on the site can discuss Jefferson Airplane's "Crown of Creation" album in detail...

Paul, I voted 5s earlier but forgot to leave a comment. Thanks for the mention. This gives me an idea.

Geez, I was so self-involved in that note to Ulvang that I forgot to thank Michael P and alvin rhodes (see, there is that other mention I referred to in my piece...lol)...Thanks, Guys ~ ~ ~

I love that I didn't have to even get to the loud impatient drum beating before I was mentioned...=) Paul knows that I'm even more impatient than most...and more vain...=)
Red Ant - August 08, 2005 - Report this comment
Well, I must say I enjoy the shout out here. Paul, you are about the only person here that routinely leaves comments longer than mine and Michael Pacholek's ( a firm compliment by the way ). I don't really talk about myself THAT much do I? Okay, maybe I do. Anyway, in the highly unlikely case that someone wants to make a tribute for me, you can see my author bio and parodies. Or, for relative ease, parody the Pink Panther intro instrumental and just type "Red Ant" about 60 times and submit it. =)
Adagio - August 08, 2005 - Report this comment
LOL!! And thanks for mentioning me, Paul. Impossible task as proved by most, huh? Anyway...good parody. 5's

Ah, Arwen...I knew you would be more than willing to accept co-'front-running' status in my little "Brown-Nose Derby" race (just kidding, all...lol...HAR!)...Red, you know, I'm really not sure who in this really does talk about themselves except for me (well, OK...maybe Arwen...(wink), I MIGHT know except I'm just to self-absorbed most of the time to notice...Adagio...HAR! Bet you thought I was gonna leave you out when you got near the end...fooled ya' ~ Stray...No way was I gonna do a suck-up piece without fully disclosing and flaunting it...I mean, it's not like the other writers aren't smart enough to know one when they see one...might as well have fun with that side of it, too...The worst thing to have happen would be to write a SU piece and have the reader's be unsure if it was or not ~ ~ ~ HAR! And as you can all see by looking at the above thread, I made good on my promise to mention respondents ~ ~ ~ Whatta guy, eh? ~ ~ ~

5s for the parody. You all now have permission to begin your respective pant-wetting activities.
Adagio - August 09, 2005 - Report this comment
It would seem, hmm...that either the further down on the list you are or not mentioned entirely (that is the big compliment, Ulvang) perhaps the better, since this is suppose to be about authors who talk about themselves (?) Is that right, Paul? or does this warrant a "no comment" ? :D
Paul Robinson - August 09, 2005 - Report this comment
Pat, actually this piece is really "neutral" on the issue...it's really just based on observation and also a little delving into the basement areas of my own thought processes and occasional actions...When you write your ego is generally involved to some degree, if not when you are writing the piece ("not" would be the preferred state for decent writing, I think), then certainly when you put it up for display and comment to others. This site is a good place to do it because if you put your best effort into something and it's not incredibly nasty towards someone you will generally get supportive comments and criticisms. So it's a "soft landing" for your stuff and a way to tell if what you think is funny or important makes anyone else laugh or think...Nothing in this is meant as a slag or diminution of anyone else on the site or anywhere else...just poking a little fun at a very real human trait for the amusement and perhaps inspiration of some very real humans who share my love of writing. Thanks to all for their votes and comments, even the person who gave me 4-1-1, I can see where someone could honestly feel that was an appropriate score, so I don't think of it as some sort of 'backlash' nor do I assign any negative connotation or thoughts towards the voter (the bastard...lol...). Of course I would have preferred straight "5's"...But I wouldn't want a person who really didn't think it was any good to feel they had to vote that way...as long as they are judging my piece by a standard they are trying to apply to other pieces I have no complaint whatsoever. I think it shows the person read it, thought the pace slightly less than their standard for "5" and didn't find it funny or interesting...or perhaps they just happen to dislike self-referential or "name-dropping" pieces...I happen to think they CAN be fun, if done with the awareness that you ARE doing it and with a good touch...See what a comment asking me what I think can cause? I could go on, but I might have to have a long talk with my boss later on today if I did (j/k, free time right now...teaching a class in 20 minutes and all set for it). later, all...
Peter Andersson - August 09, 2005 - Report this comment
DKTOS but I guess I'm "Pete Andersson". In spirit of the parody I will now talk about myself and let you know that the name is never shortened like that in Swedish, though some Peters get to go by the common Finn name Pekka which is unpronounceble in English. I don't mind though, you're not the first online acquaintance to call me Pete, I'm almost kinda used to it. :-)

BTW, I don't know if this Ulvang guy is from Norway but it's a Norwegian name. Vegard Ulvang was, for example, a skier who stole a bunch of Olympic Gold Medals away from right under our Swedish noses back in 1992.

Stole gold medals? Who's he got on retainer, a Russian judge or Jim Baker? (The Bush hitman, not the cheating televangelist.)
Tim Mayfield - August 09, 2005 - Report this comment
Nice way to include both a shout out and slam down in one fell swoop. hehe ;-) I would have expected EmiLoca and Jake A. Ralphing to hit the top list as that "Hitting on Emiloca" has 940 comments and counting..

Um, you're supposed to judge with a standard we apply to other pieces huh? (wrinkling up my list of authors and voting scale) Darn, I was just getting the hang of it.

Peter - Apologies for my Cultural Ignorance (in capital letters). As you know, Americans are famous world-wide for this trait. Hope I haven't been calling you that in the threads?? Well, at least I spelled your last name correctly...Jeff, thanks & your welcome. Michael, I did not steal that gold medal...
Grammar Police - August 09, 2005 - Report this comment
Mr. Robinson, I have to cite you for a grammatically incorrect title. It should read, "All We Authors ..."
Paul Robinson - August 10, 2005 - Report this comment
Grammer (sic) Pul-leeze - I'm sorry, but I have to call you a dense imbecile...that's PART of the whole schtick...a long, unwieldy title is ATTENTION GETTING...and not PARTICULARLY SUBTLE (or "SUB-TULL" as my late brother used to pronounce it when one THOUGHT they were being "subtle" and were not). A good part of the entire POINT of posting this (and writing it in this first place) was to have a little good-natured fun with it...and the other author's...and with myself as well. If you READ the piece (including the "Drum Beats") with anything but a block-headed, literalist mindset you HAVE to be able to see that tongue is plantly so deeply in cheek that I could hardly mumble the lyrics out...Jesus, if I weren't having so much fun here just cutting loose and letting you have it I would really be annoyed...lol...OK...that's enough...OH...if you were kidding, I didn't get the joke...
Paul Robinson - August 12, 2005 - Report this comment
Tim Mayfield - I tried to make comment back to you the other day but got "twitted" and never got back to do it...So...Thanks! Uh...the "Standards" thing...flexibility - an important factor ~ ~ ~
