The Lyrics

I know this is a parody site, but this is an original, serious composition I have written that I wanted to share. It is generating some internet interest through some blog sites and debate clubs. There is a link below to listen to my performance of it. This is a response to Professor De Genova's infamous diatribe against soldiers at Columbia University. I won't make a habit of posting this kind of stuff, but I think this needs to be said.
A million Mogadishus,
A million Vietnams,
A million more bin Ladens,
A million more Saddams,
A million grieving mothers,
Whose sons lie somewhere dead.
A million soldiers bleeding,
While you sleep safe in your bed.

You curse those who protect you.
You spit on hallowed graves.
You trifle with your sacred rights,
While others live as slaves.
You turn blind eyes on tyrants,
As atrocities increase.
You burn the flag of freedom in
the holy name of peace.

Don't you tell me not to praise the men
and women in harm's way.
'Cause I've got just as much right as you
To stand and have my say.
And though you may block some traffic now,
They'll soon come home with pride.
And when true heros march down those streets,
Just kindly step aside.

A million Mogadishus,
Can you know what you've said?
A million brave Americans
That you want to see dead.
You've got the right to say it,
But I think you've crossed a line.
You shouldn't curse the brave whose shoes
You're not worthy to shine.

A million Mogadishus,
The argument of fools,
Who squander precious freedoms and
Become oppression's tools.
You do not dare for shame to ask
Respect for what you've said,
While soldiers die for freedom
As you sleep safe in your bed.
. . . you sleep safe in your bed.
. . . you sleep safe in your bed.

Wow! Very powerful, Stray Pooch. It is one thing to question or even to oppose the war, but it is difficult to condemn strongly enough Professor De Genova for wishing that American soldiers suffer Mogadishu-like atrocities. This poem expresses this condemnation quite well. Not sure how to rate your pacing or your humor, but I thought you earned a 5-5-5.

Stray Pooch, what that professor said was the most anti-American, anti-freedom, pro-Terrorist statement I had ever heard....that man should not be allowed to teach at Columbia, that man should not be allowed to live in the States anymore! If he wants "A Million Mogadishus", then I want him to go to Iraq, and join the Iraq Army...This guy is a Pacifist that wants violence...it just doesnt work that way.....anyway, Its not a parody, but I gave you straight 5's....this song is great, and more relevent than anything I have written, or could have written about the "war protestors"..thank you for writing this

Powerful stuff, Poochie. I gotta hand it to you, that's some quality work. I don't agree with the war, but you can't take anything away from the soldiers who are giving their lives over in Iraq. I support our troops, but I don't support the war. I support our troops so much that I don't want any of them to die. I didn't want them to risk their lives for us. Now I want quick end to a war that has achieved anarchy so that our brave men and women can come home and be with their families. Never believe for a second that the majority of the pro-peace camp hate our soldiers.
