"These Jewish Things"

Parody Written by:

The Lyrics

A mohel (pronounced roughly like 'moy'el'), performs the ceremonial circumcision at a 'bris'. (Refer to Merry and Pippin's brilliant 'Peeled at a Bris' ( A babke ('bob-ka') is a sort of coffee cake, common in some traditional Jewish households.
My nephew's bris, that had the drunken mohel
Who almost slipped and made the boy a 'goil'...
My Star of David ring...
These Jewish things remind me of you...

The way I catch a buzz from Manischewitz...
The babkes that my parents used to get us...
The songs a cantor sings...
These Jewish things remind me of you...

My aunt, your mom... who fixed us up
Those are real Jews to me --
(I want things how they used to be...)

The way the Holy Days are always kosher...
The lean pastrami from the corner grocer...
My own neurotic shrink...
These Jewish things remind me of you...

This is pretty good. About 30 years ago I heard a different version, and I can remember some of the words. Maybe you could use them for additional verses: A pickled herring and some hot pastrami, A chopped tomato with some cold salami, The heartburn that it brings These Jewish things remind me of you. The celebratin' that you know I'm dreading The violinist at your sister's wedding Long weekends in Palm Springs These Jewish things remind me of you.
