Prior to the Blitz campaign of bombing in 1940, the Luftwaffe planned to arm the Me-264 "Amerika Bomber" with LMA IVs of 2,400 lbs of Amatol 39 explosive. These were naval aerial mines converted over for land bombardment which were 11' long and almost 3' wide. The 264 would have hit NY and other coastal cities with them but development delays meant that the LW only used them with medium bombers against British cities in the South. At the time, they were the largest bombs dropped (before the British 4,000 lb cookie and larger Tallboys and Grand Slams). The LW would mark targets with flares and then a combo of SC iron bombs, incendiaries, and LMAs would be dropped. Made quite a mess until Hitler abandoned "Operation Sealion" for the East.
