The Lyrics

Patrick definately should know this one very well- the infamous MARS pistol (English version)! I have only seen one under glass and never had the displeasure to shoot one! It came a decade before the Colt M1911 in 1901 from a pistol patent submittor Hugh W. Gabbett-Fairfax. He submitted many designs but built very few. The MARS was an extremely powerful handgun meant to replace a revover for military service but was overly complex, had an annoying flash, terrible recoil shock, and the ejected cases flew backwards into the user's face! But it was heavy yet balanced, low climb, 6 shot of 156 grain bottleneck .45 cal rounds that packed 945 fp of ME vs only 370 fp of ME for the latter Colt .45!!! Was 10" long and used a complicated recoil system for loading and ejection. Result was early "magnum flinch" and the old saying that "anyone that fired it ONE time was reluctant to fire it a SECOND time!!!" Rejected for military use due to maintainence issues and any dirt jammed it immediately. Police use only and then very seldom!
MARS pistol hard to shoot
flinched each time

Weapon over-complex and huge
.45 packin’
Rough recoil action

Few could handle it
Huge flash did astound
10” length, heavy
Used high-grain bottlenecked rounds

[Not suited for Euro-battlegrounds]

MARS pistol hard to shoot
flinched each time
Not kind

Made a few
Made a few
Made a few
I’d say about 80
Power to spare
A decade too early
‘Til Colt’s baby

[Sales were fading]

No mercy
MARS pistol hard to shoot
flinched each time
(Police only)

From the pictures I've seen, the bolt picked up the cartridge from the magazine, held it out in the open, like a breech-loading howitzer, then loaded it. Weird and vulnerable to dirt and stoppages. I've seen a couple of the Savage .45 automatic test pistols. Simpler design, but same problem with recoil and parts breakage.
