Parody Song Title:

"Revolver Carbine Crude"

Parody Written by:

Robert D. Arndt Jr.

The Lyrics

The Colt Revolving Carbine Model1855 was a simple attempt to elongate a Colt cap and ball pistol with a stock and lengthened barrel to form a 5-shot carbine for the US Cavalry. The advantages over a single-shot weapon were obvious and so the weapon was sound in theory. However, experiences with it showed that it frequently experienced flashovers that ignited the other 4 rounds in the chambers which caused explosions, damage to the frame, flashburns, and shots to the Troopers themselves! The carbine was deemed unsafe and subsequently dropped.
Revolver carbine crude
for the time

Cap and ball for cavalry use
Stock extension
Barrel was lengthened

Was a 5-shot bandit
Chambers spinnin’ round
Flashovers were deadly
Explosions could take a Trooper down

[Advantage lost when the flaw was found]

Revolver carbine crude
for the time
‘55

Of little use
Of little use
Of little use
Colt failed that endeavor
Caused firing scare
Back to the carbines
With a lever

[Which was clever]

Calvary
Revolver carbine crude
for the time
(Weapon was dropped for safety)

I saw one of the replicas a few years ago. Very expensive. Most reenactors would rather have a Henry or Spencer for the price, just as a real soldier in the 1860's would have preferred. The 1855 replica was soon discontinued, too. There is a revolving carbine based on the Remington 1858 revolver. Balanced so the shooter's hand is behind the cylinder.

Going the pistol-to-carbine route, I think I'd rather prefer an Artillery Luger instead with the 32 rd snail drum!!!
