The 1963 Corvette has a hidden history with its split-window design that originated in Nazi Germany. The original car with this feature was the 1937 Adler Trumpf Rennwagen racer that was showcased on the German Autobahn and also raced at LeMans in '37 and '38, taking its class. It was a streamliner with low drag coefficient of .26! Postwar, one of the cars (there were 2) was at the Michigan State Fair. The owner was made an offer by GM and was told to bring the car to the GM Vandyke Design Center where it was put on a turntable and filmed by 3 cameras on tripods. After it was spun a few times, the car was removed and returned to the owner with no deal!!! GM stole the split-window design for the '63 Vette and it can be proven through the history of GM's clay models of the Vette before and after the Rennwagen was filmed! It should be noted that this car also has another important history too- it was driven at LeMans by a female, Anne Iteire- the first at LeMans! Pics below...
