The Lyrics

After WW1 the new Polish Army needed a standard side arm but instead opted for pistols from several nations like: Germany, Austria, Russia, France, Italy, Britain, etc.. So, by 1935 there was a competition for a new pistol to take the 9mm Parabellum round and the Radom Vis-35 was selected. This is based largely on the Browning HP and looks like it and the Colt .45 with slight differences, mainly caliber difference and a switch to safely lower the hammer so that the gun could be carried fully loaded and ready to fire. It was a heavy weapon, more than all German pistols except for the old Mauser C-96 and variants and lighter than the Allied Colt .45 by 2 oz. When the Germans invaded and occupied, they kept the pistol in production and actually used it more than the Poles ever did since it was carried only by Polish calvary officers! The German Army, wanting to sabotage the Waffen SS, gave them old small arm stocks and occupied nations' pistols- among them was the Radom. But this backfired and the Waffen SS loved it! Was a very stable shooter and made tough with excellent materials. Had high tolerances. So liked, that the LW paras got them too! And special SS teams got them to kill partisans. So, the Polish Army barely got to use a weapon that the German Army, Waffen SS, and Luftwaffe used!!! The irony...

A pre-War Radom with slotted mainspring housing is a thing of rare beauty. The Poles never issued the shoulder stock, but a Mauser C96 stock will fit. Some one told me this, I don't have one. Late war Radoms were very crudely made and eliminated some of the levers. I think one of the prototypes was made in .45 ACP, but this caliber was not available in quantity in most of Europe.
