The Lyrics

In the 1950s Chrysler proposed a very radical tank that would consist of two seperate modules (the turret and hull) connected via an armored cylinder so that the 4-man crew, main gun, ammo, and ENGINE could ALL be stored in the upper turret, while the lower hull was filled with fuel and contained electric batteries to propel the tracks! The initial V-8 engine would run a generator in the turrret and then feed the batteries below in the hull. The tank was to be no more than 25 tons with 15 tons up top and 10 tons below. The height difference meant that the commander and gunner would have excellent views and a TV system would be installed just above the 90mm gun. The crew were seperated from the gun and ammo, engine, etc... by an armored bulkhead inside. The gun would be fed by an auto-loader. The main gun would be backed up by 2x .30 cal MGs co-axially and 1x .50 cal MG remote-controlled on the roof. The TV-8, being sealed, would also have the rare tank ability to float in water via engine-driven jet pump!!! This was a very radical design for the time and was rejected as highly impractical. The Achilles Heel of the tank would be the exposed armored cylinder and even the high COG of the tank might tip it over on a hill when firing! A bizarre machine, it was intended for US Army troops in occupied Germany for use against the Soviets!
Chrysler concept tank new
odd design

All in the turret for the crew
Ring designin’
Split module tryin’

Two separate units
With hull near the ground
Engine in turret, oddly
Energy to batteries fed down

Chrysler concept tank new
odd design
For time

Quite a view
Quite a view
Quite a view
TV tech was new
90 (mm) gun there
With added MGs
Auto-loader, smooth

The ‘50s
Chrysler concept tank new
odd design
(TV-8 was nifty)
