The Lyrics

The Fw-190C program began in 1942 as a way to combat USAAF escorts that could reach 28-3000 ft, the achilles heel of the early Fw-190s that performed excellent under 22,000 ft. Kurt Tank as designer proposed the C-series as high-altitude interceptors with the new DB 603 engine but immediately ran into trouble with the RLM over allocation of engines. But since the D-series would be using the Jumo 213 the RLM allowed 5 prototypes to be converted over with the DB 603 that used a combination of MW-50 (Methanol-Water) injection and nitrous (GM-1) to climb at 4330 fpm to an amazing height of 39,000 feet- way above both the bombers and the escorts. However, this meant additions to the stretched airframe 2.25 ft to accomodate the DB 603 inline which was lighter than the BMW 801. But the TK-11 Turbo supercharger was massive and was mounted ventrally like a pouch which led to the nickname Kangaruh. The exhaust gases were so hot that a piping system was instralled then blew them back over the wings. The temps were very hot and the added pressurized cockpit seals often had to be replaced. Still, the speed was raised to 450 mph at 22,500 ft and over 400 mph at altitude. A 4-blade wooden prop added to high-altitude performance but the engine controversy mixed with FW's other D-series production with the Jumo 213 led to the prototypes being used for turbosupercharger development while the D-series went into production D-9 thru D-13. By 1944, the C-series was cancelled with aim to have the Fw Ta 152H perform high-altitude intercepts.
