In 1941, Switzerland wanted a new SMG for its troops but decided not to buy from Germany as a neutral. So they should have held a competition for the best design. They didn't and went with the State Arms (W+F) instead, trusting that designer Furrer would produce a good design. What he designed was ultra-complex (even by German standards) with an odd short-recoil action but toggle-locked and also with complex linkage. The design proved so complex to manufacture that the first 100 ordered in 1941 were not completed until 1944!!! The cost was extremely high and so a second version was completed that added a folding foregrip/stand, a pistol grip, and less-complex operating mechanisms. Still, the SMG was fed from the right with a curved horizontal magazine and was too costly. So Switzerland wasted all that time only to cancel the gun and order Finnish Suomis through Sweden (due to the war situation and neutrality). The gun never saw any action, but stocks were retained until the 1960s!!!
