John R. Searl attempted to build a Levitation Disc privately in the 1960s in Sussex. At that time the British MoD was already secretly working on disc craft through AVRO Canada to keep the Soviets from spying on the program which was derived from German WW2 disc aircraft technologies headed by Dr. Richard Miethe. So when they found-out that Searl was making his own disc craft (under assembly in the woods), they pressured him to drop his "Levity Disc" design. The work went slow with the wooden body which was sorta like the WW2 Finnish Sunray type that the Germans ordered. The outer shell was under construction full-scale while several sub-scale radio controlled models were flown and a larger static model was used to make fake composite photos (but not for a hoax, just a newspaper article on such developments). Searl's discs were controversial and then shut-down. No one knows exactly the real reason which remains an enigma. With proper Govt. funding and military involvement Searl's disc might have flown as a recon machine.
