Peenemunde's EMW (Elektromechanische Werke) performed studies on manned versions of the V-2 missile for space recon and also to attack NY in 1945 as part of the renewed Amerika Bomber project. Von Braun was more interested as passing off proposed military versions that advanced his space technologies regardless of the impact of such costly spending. EMW studied the A-6 and A-9 versions of the V-2 and A-9/A-10 ICBM. The A-6 would be a pressurized manned version with an aux. ramjet engine that would reach 2900 kph and 95,000 m. It was to be for recon and would have been impossible to detect. But the expenditure for development just wasn't there and the SS directed von Braun to work harder on developing a more advanced BM than the V-2 and also the two-stage A-9/A-10 ICBM to hit NY. However, all was not lost. The A-6 schematics and data were handed over to the US for examination and the X-15A-2 [56-6671] with ramjet was tested in 1967. Coincidence? No...
